How to use translan- guaging strategies (i.e., allowing students’ familiar linguistic and cultural resources to scaffold content and language learning) while ensuring that students get the opportunities to use the target language (L2) for meaningful purposes? In this workshop, I present our experience in developing the ‘Multimodalities-Entextualization Cycle’(MEC) as a critical pragmatic approach that both scaffolds students’ content and language learning, and affirms and capitalizes on their familiar cultural and linguistic resources.
