Multicultural Point Credit Classes For multicultural credit will no longer be separated into categories of specific and general. You will need to submit the multicultural application in addition to the general class proposal. Memo No. M-5, Attachment C
Must meet 4 of these 7 Requirements Provide general information on the concepts of culture, assimilation, acculturation, and identity formation as a means to eliminate stereotypes; Provide information and strategies to counter stereotypes and infuse culturally relevant and responsive content into curriculum; Provide educational research and instructional strategies applicable to student diversity;

Syllabus-Class Description Describe class in 1-2 hour sections. Give enough detail that we know what you are doing and include what the participants will have to do. Tie the activities together and refer back to your goals so it is not just a list of activities.
Homework-Outside Assignment You must estimate the hours for each each part of the homework so it add up to the required hours. Describe each assignment in enough that the Committee will be able to understand why an assignment was estimated for that amount.
Homework should be the college level you should present clear expectations of what you expect and the deadline for submission. Part of the homework should include a lesson plan based on what was presented in the class if it is appropriate to the topic of the class.
Homework #37 & #38 You may want to insert the homework assignments within your syllabus #37 with several class sessions and just put a summary in #38. If you are using a weekend format with homework due a month after the class, put all the information in #38.
Suggestions . You might try doing the assignment yourself as a model and so you have a realistic sense of what you are asking for.
Salary Point Project Approval Process At least eight weeks before the class: Submit completed proposal including contract, class outline, speakers forms, copy of credential, & evaluation) to Janet Davis, You must also submit an electronic copy of the proposal. * If not approved, modify and re-submit.
Approval Process if approved… Course # assigned to you. Roster and P or NA forms sent via email. Prepare roster in alphabetical order and P or NA forms. Send bottom part to participants when homework is complete or at the last class if it is a 30 hour /no hw. class.

Generally participants should have a 4-6 weeks from the first day of class to complete their homework. Your assigned due date is the completion date unless HW is late. Give people with late homework a completion date based on when you receive the homework.
Roster

In the Near Future… We will be using Learning Zone. If you are an LAUSD employee register now with the learning zone. You will need to know your District email and your password. You will be trained on how to use the the Learning Zone as an instructor.
Overview Suggestions Identify how your goal matches the State Standards and/or the Standards for the Teaching Profession. Focus on one or two key standard within the targeted grade levels. See California Dept. of Education web site www.cde.ca.gov )
When stating your objectives: Include a summary of the activities and the expectations you have for the participants so it is clear What your course is designed to do. How it will accomplish those goals. Make sure it all connects back to the standard you have chosen.
Guidelines for Speakers and Controversial Issues Attachment D must be filled out for all speakers that are not LAUSD employees. This ensures that vendors will not be speaking and doing sales pitches for their products among other things. (See back of Attachment D)
Salary Point Packet P-form or NA-form(new version) Roster (please type) Instructions Keep a copy of the Sign-ins and the roster! Don’t copy P forms
Data Merge I prefer that the participants do not fill out the P form. Data merge from the roster. It is no longer necessary to follow the decades long ritual of filling out P forms filled with questions nobody is knows how to answer. This is easier, faster, and there will be fewer errors.

Editor's Notes

  • #4: These classes need to help teachers and health and human support personnel grow professionally and their completion of the coursework will help them advance on the salary schedule. These classes are equal in value to university coursework in terms of their salary advancement.
  • #6: The organizations using the NA process are generally outside the District. Participants may be be required to pay a fee to participate in NA classes and P classes are free but may charge a materials fee.
  • #7: Does not look like this anymore…there’s no quick find SITE SEARCH-TYPE IN STAFF DEVELOPMENT
  • #17: Please do not give us a canned answer for this or your proposal will not be accepted. Reflect on this section and consciously focus parts of your course so that teachers are better able to serve the learning needs of all their students. Example technology can be a great way to help students connect to the curriculum. Pointing that out may help teachers realize that computer time should not be taken away from students who haven’t completed other work.
  • #37: Blank boxes
