- 14. Pacing: Education of Young Children It is recommended that about 90 minutes be spent on the multiple-choice questions, and 30 minutes be spent on the constructed response questions. The two sections are NOT independently timed. It is also recommended you answer all questions. Your score is determined on the amount of questions you get correct, not based on the amount of questions answered. There is no penalty for incorrect answers. Keeping these recommendations in mind, determine your own pacing.

- 23. 3 Things You Need to Succeed: • Preparation – Learn what the test covers – Study areas you don’t know very well • Organization – Create a clear, targeted study plan for the weeks leading up to the test • Practice – Practice answering test questions and pacing yourself

Stay Focused • Many people get so nervous when the test supervisor tells them to begin – Instead of racing to the first question, take a minute to browse through the test page by page • Remember you are not expected to answer every question correctly – You can skip difficult questions and return to them later if there is time • If you “go-blank” when facing constructed-response questions, remember that action fights anxiety – Start jotting down anything on a piece of scrap paper – Once you start writing, you are more likely to find ideas taking shape in your head – Then you can start to organize your actual response

Stay Focused • For multiple-choice tests, your score is based on the number of questions you answer correctly – Work as rapidly as you can without sacrificing accuracy – Don’t spend too much time puzzling over a question that seems too difficult for you – Answer the easier questions first, then return to the harder ones – Try to answer every question even if you have to guess

- 28. Taking the Test You should have ended your review a day or two before the actual test date. On the day of the test, you should: • Be well-rested and eat a healthy breakfast. • Take a valid photo identification that includes your signature with you. • Be sure to print your admission ticket to take with you. • Take a supply of well-sharpened No. 2 pencils (at least 3). Mechanical pencils are NOT allowed. • If taking multiple tests on the same day, bring food with you to keep your energy level up. • Be prepared to stand in line to check in. • Wear comfortable clothes and dress in layers. • Do not take your cell phone into the testing center.
