This document analyzes the impact of delays on construction projects in India. It identifies 38 causes of delays within 8 major groups. A survey was conducted with 35 respondents (9 owners, 12 contractors, 14 consultants) to rank the critical causes of delays using the Relative Importance Index technique. The top 10 most important causes of delays according to the analysis are: 1) rework due to errors during construction, 2) inadequate planning and scheduling by the contractor, 3) original contract duration being too short, 4) delay in material delivery, 5) shortage of labor, 6) poor site management by the contractor, 7) inadequate contractor work experience, 8) difficulties financing the project, 9) delay in progress payments by the owner,
