Geographical Location : 75 Kms. Away from Jodhpur city. Dholeria Jagir has the fertile land but the farming is mainly depends on rain because of scarcity of water. Cultural Background : Dholeria Jagir village is mainly formed by Patel & Rajpurohit community. Farming & labour is the main occupation of the villagers. Role of Satya Bharti School in the Village : Satya Bharti School is providing quality education to the children of this village from 2007. The school proved itself as a great “Change Maker” in the field of education. The Satya Bharti School, Dholeria is providing free education to those students who are underprivileged & can not afford hi-tech education. In this school, there is no discrimination of caste, colour & religion and all students are equal on a same platform. Participation in ‘Design for Change’ School Contest : SBS Dholeria Jagir participated in “Design for Change” contest and put an idea for sanitation in village which is major problem of this village. About the Community
Villagers used the open area as a toilet. Throwing waste anywhere. Using plastic bags at maximum. Waste & dirty water sanitation system is not proper. We ‘Felt’:
We ‘Imagined’: Talk to community leaders like – Sarpanch, Ward Panch & Old aged people. Meeting at village Chaupal. Make some responsible person from village. Make a rally with the help of students. Prepare some slogans. Prepare banners & role play. Prepare V class students for the reduction and no use of plastic in houses & village. We will made a small Bio-gas plant with the help of community and will use the animals waste in a useful manner.
We ‘Did’: We start a rally from school to village with the help of students. We made three groups and distribute responsibilities like- collecting waste plastics from surrounding areas, collect animals dunk & make a drainage system nearby Gram Panchayat. Around 70-75 members were the eye witness of the students work. Class V students present a role play in front of villagers. All villagers & students collected in the school. V students present a model of proper sanitation & explained to community members. Teacher explained the water recycling system.
Impact on Community: Community members aware about the dieses which spread through wastes. Donors & Gram Panchayat promised to students to make 2-3 public toilets in the village. Sarpanch of the village promised to give a mini solar system for the toilets. A community member promised to repair the Bio-gas plant for the effective use of animals dunk. Villagers took oath for not to use plastic bags & open spaces as a toilet.
Earning for society through bio-fertilizers. Regular meetings with community & ensure that the community is doing or not , what the students messaged to them. Signing on more oath letters. Resource new public toilets through Panchayat of Local Leaders. Generate electricity through bio-gas plant. Focus on paper bags. The Road Ahead….. (in the next 3 months)
