Infosys Technologies was founded in 1981 and grew to become a large, global IT services firm. In 2006, Infosys was considering a move into the IT consulting market segment for several strategic reasons, including addressing backlash against offshore outsourcing in the US and wanting to be seen as a major player alongside firms like IBM and Accenture. Infosys launched a subsidiary, Infosys Consulting Inc, to enter the consulting market and create US jobs in response to outsourcing criticism. The company also saw consulting as a natural evolution of their services that would allow them to offer clients more than just IT implementation.
