Introduction
• An Integrated Library System (ILS) is an
automated package of library services that
contains several functions. These functional
usually include library housekeeping
operations such as circulation, acquisitions,
Serial control, cataloguing, Reports, etc. An
Integrated Library Management System is also
called an Integrated Library Management
System (ILMS).
Objectives of Library System (ILMS)
• a) To build a system that can receive input and generate
automatically output in easy way and short time.
• b) To build a monitoring system that is able to monitor
and manage all library operations efficiently.
• c) Give an opportunity to librarians to reduce mistakes
that always happen during manual method.
• d) To store properly the library items in order to
maintain their security.
• e) To enter and preserve details of the various issues
and keep a track on their returns.

Functions of Library Integrated
Software (Module)
Integrated library management system.ppt
For Example: Sub system of Koha
Acquisition sub-system:
• Pre-order search
• Placing order
• Received item processing
• Accessioning
• Received invoice processing
• Claims
• Cancellation pre-order
• Physical preparation
• Financial records, budgeting and reporting, etc.
Circulation sub-system:
• Membership registration
• Issue/Charge (check out)
• Returne/Discharge (check in)
• Renewals
• Holds or registration
• Overdue charge
• Search and retrieval
• Reminder/Enquiries
• Reporting, etc.
Cataloguing sub-system:
• Standard formats support
• Authority control (in MARC 21 authority format)
• Integration with Linked Open Data (LOD)
• Unicode-compliant multilingual data processing
• Retrieval with sophisticated search operators
• Integration with virtual keyboard for multilingual searching
• Shared cataloguing
• Z39.50 based copy cataloguing
• Output generation and holdings information
• User services (interactive and participative).
• Allow for local cataloguing
• Allow for modification of records
According to need can access services
Online access
• Public access interface
(OPAC)
• Web access and
Remote access
• Social-network enabled
OPAC
• Gateway services.
• Z39.50 based copy
cataloguing
Serials Control
• Order placement and
renewal of subscriptions
• Kardex management
• Receiving and claiming
• Binding control
• Fund accounting
• Cataloguing of serials
• Enquiries (arrival of serials
issues)
• Reports and statistics
Other Management
Statistical (Report)
• All Reports and
statistics
• Analysis of statistics
• Usage statistics
(compliant with
COUNTER).
• Budget allocation and
expenditure
Outreach Services
• Community
information services
• Social-networking
support
• Library blog
• Online help for users.
• Database share each
other
Advantages of ILS:
• No chance of doubling in records
• Opportunities of errors are reduced
• Co-ordination between each functional systems
• Staff and patrons can view status of items from the
OPAC or Web PAC
• Staffs shares common or same master file for all
housekeeping operations
• Copy cataloguing system helps to become more
productive quickly.
• Easy for reporting and record maintenance
• More secure and reliable than manual system, etc.
Potential Difficulties of ILS:
• Technical resources (Human and Equipment)
• Economic barriers
• Skilled manpower to handle
• Existing information infrastructure
• Cultural and social barriers
• (Availability of large number of unskilled
workers or staffs in this field and lack of well
trained personnel and technical support, etc.)
