Technology Use Involves : Technology used as a media for delivering instruction Conveyor of information Tutors of Students
How involved are students with  technology use ? Learners perceive and try to understand the messages stored in the technology. Interaction limited to pressing a key.
Technology Integration: “ The incorporation of technology resources and technology based practices into the daily routines, work, and management of schools.” Defined by: The National Forum on Education Statistics (2005),  Forum Unified Education Technology Suite
How involved are students with  technology integration ? Students are required to think about what they know in different, meaningful ways. Engage students in critical thinking.
Which is Better? ** Integrating Technology ** “ Technology should not support learning by attempting to instruct the learners, but rather should be used as knowledge construction tools that students learn with, not from.” Johanssen, D.H (1996)   Computers in the classroom: Mindtools for critical thinking .  Columbus, OH: Merrill Hall
Why is technology integration better? Gets students involved Engages students Encourages critical thinking Knowledge Construction, not repetition Gets students acquainted with recent technology Prepares student for real world Learn with technology not from it Cost efficient / assessable for schools
