Technology Use  vs. Technology Integration Is there a difference? By: Julie Schott
Why is technology being used? To improve learning Increase learning options Facilitate alternative assessment methods “  Technologies should not support learning by attempting to instruct the learners, but rather should be used as knowledge construction tools that students learn  with,  not  from.” (Computers as Mindtools, p.1)
Technology Integration Def: Technology integration, as defined by the National Forum on Education Statistics (2005),  Forum Unified Education Technology Suite , "is the incorporation of technology resources and technology-based practices into the daily routines, work, and management of schools" ( Part 8 ).   
Examples of Technology Integration. Conducting research Interactive multimedia Telecommunications Computer simulations Wikki’s Blogs Mindtools (i.e. Databases, Semantic networking, Dynamic modeling tools, spreadsheets) Mindtools require learners to think harder about the subject matter domain being studied while generating thoughts that would be possible without the tool.
Technology Use Def: The use of electronic devices.
Examples of Technology Use Any use of technology that doesn’t require analyzing, problem solving or critical thinking.
Why integrate technology? Students will be able to speak the language of the 21 st  century and access information and experiences from around the world, and the teachers will become facilitators of engaged learning practices.  Using computer based tools help students learn in a deeper and more immediate way. Technology integration helps engage learners in critical thinking.  Vision: To imbue students with the infrastructure in  technology necessary to  support  essentials for  robust participation in the world of tomorrow.
This is the difference! Instead of asking “should schools have computers?” we should be asking “How are technologies best used in education to help students achieve and prepare for the world outside of school?”
