• NJ ASK becomes === PARCC
• APA becomes ===DLM
• Science will be tested as usual using a
paper version of NJASK in grades 4 & 8
What is PARCC?
• The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College
and Careers (PARCC) is a consortium of 17 states plus the
District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands working
together to develop a common set of K-12 assessments
in English and math anchored in what it takes to be ready
for college and careers.
• PARCC assessments are computer based and aligned with
the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).
Devices To Be Used
• Grades 3-5:
oiPad
• Grades 6-8:

PARCC Design for ELA
1. Complexity: Regular practice with complex text and
its academic language.
2. Evidence: Reading and writing grounded in evidence
from text, literary and informational.
3. Knowledge: Building knowledge through content rich
nonfiction.
10
Performance-Based
Components
• Literary Analysis Tasks – students will read
literature and compose an analytic essay.
• Research Simulation Tasks – students will
analyze an informational topic presented
through several articles or multimedia stimuli
and then answer a series of questions, synthesizing
information from multiple sources, in order to
write two analytic essays.
• Narrative Tasks – students will convey real or
imaginary, experiences or events (e.g. write a
story, detail a scientific process, write a historical
account of important figures, describe an account of
events, scenes or objects).
End-Of-Year Assessment - ELA
• Students will demonstrate their ability to
read and comprehend complex
informational and literary texts by
answering questions that will be
sequenced in a way that draw students
into deeper encounters with the texts.

Administrative Considerations for All
What is Not New?
• New Jersey will administer a general state assessment in
mathematics, English Language Arts and Science (PARCC)
AND an alternate assessment for students with the most
significant cognitive disabilities (DLM).
• The IEP team determines whether a student with disabilities
will participate in the PARCC or the DLM.
• The IEP or 504 team will determine what
accommodations will be provided during administration of
the PARCC and list them in the IEP or 504 plan.
• General education and special education staff need to plan
ahead to ensure appropriate selection and administration of
accommodations.
