Introduction to Photography
□ Visual Communication has different appeal to influence all.
□ It may be a photograph or movie has created an impact.
□ It is a universal means of communication.
□ It become a valuable tool in many fields.
□ Photograph can record beyond the our range of vision.

□ It is a scientific invention.
□ It is used merely as a technical process to record some visual fact.
□ Similarly, Photography is used as an expression of emotion.
□ Peter Rose Pulham- “Photography is not only a technology to record a
situation, but it is an art that can record the emotion and expression of
the nature with the help of scientific technology”.
Introduction to Photography
□ Photography means writing with light.
□ It has derived from Greek Words ‘Photo’ means ‘Light’
□ Graphos or Graphein means ‘To draw’
□ In 1839, Sir John Fredrrick William Herschel was first used
the word Photography
□ Louis Jacques Mande Deggurre-photographic process
‘daguerreotype’ in 1839.

□ In 1840, William Henry Fox Talbot patented his negative-
positive calotype process.
□ In 1871, George Eastman introduced flexible films.
□ The Eastman Kodak Company was established in 1880.
□ He began the manufacture of dry photographic plates for sale.

□ Alhazen invented the first ‘Pinhole Camera’ around 1000AD.

□ The 1878, discovered "instantaneous" snapshot exposures
practical.
□ With daylight and a film, a small camera could be hand-held
while taking the picture.

□ It was pre-loaded with enough film for 100 exposures.
□ During 1905-13, 35mm film was used for still photography.

□ In 1936, Argus-A camera was introduced into market
□ In 1939, Argus-C3 became popular with follfilm.

□ with the Canon 35 mm.

□ In 1936, the first western SLR was introduced with 135 film,
the Kine Exakta.
□ In 1950s, Canon, Yashica and Nikon entered into SLR market
from Japan.

Eastman Kodak.
□ In 1988, The first digital camera Fuji DS-IP was introduced.
□ It could be recorded images as a computerized file.
□ In 1991, Kodak brought to market the Kodak DCS.

□ Nikon D1 was the first digital SLR affordable camera
□ Since 2003, digital cameras have outsold film cameras.
□ in January 2004, film cameras were stopped from Kodak.
□ Since, 2012, Smartphones are replacing the professional
cameras.
