Course Description
• Designed in order to introduce
lingustics to student.
• Students introduced to fields
that related to language.
• It introduces the students to
the development of linguistics.
• This course is the prerequisite
of others deep linguistics
course.
Standard Competence
The students have
adequate theoretical
and practical knowledge
of linguistics at the basic
level in order that the
students will be able to
understand better the
subsequent courses
that they will take.
Course Objective
By the end of the course, the students
expected to:
• Have adequate theoretical and
practical knowledge of linguistics.
• Be able to understand better the
subsequent courses that they will take.
• Master the language they are learning.

Grading of this subject will consider the following items:
• Attendance : 30%
• Assignments, Presentation. & Class Participation : 20%
• Mid term Exam & Quiz 1 : 25%
• Final Test & Quiz 2 : 25%
*) Students are required to attend the course at least 75% of 16
meetings, and for those who cannot fulfill this requirement are
not allowed to take the final exam.
Unless, the student have fervent reasons, he/she is allowed to
take final exam if they attend 60% of 16 meetings.

Grading Score 86.00 – 100 : A
71.00 – 85.99 : B
56.00 – 70.99 : C
41.00 – 55.99 : D (remedial at the given time)
00.00 – 40 .99 : E (study over)
