This document discusses different introspective techniques used in linguistic research, including verbal reports, diary studies, and organizing/interpreting collected data. Verbal reports involve collecting thoughts currently in short-term memory through think-alouds or retrospective reports. Diary studies allow researchers to see factors identified by language learners and teachers through personal accounts over time. When analyzing data, researchers transcribe, code, and look for patterns in the thoughts, contexts, and language used in reports and diaries to understand language learning and teaching experiences.
