- 1. Norwood News Issue 19 28th January 2011 Arts Festival Countdown 24 weeks to go TERM DATES Year 6’s World War 2 Evacuation! Spring Term 2011 NEW DATE School closed: Friday 11th February (Staff training day) Half Term: Monday 14th-Friday 18th February Term Ends: Friday 1st April. School closes at 2pm Summer Term 2011 Children return to school Tuesday 19th April at 8.55am School closed: Good Friday 22nd April Easter Monday 25th April Children return to school Tuesday 26th April at 8.55am School closed: Bank Holiday Friday 29th April After hearing the air raid siren during a Maths lesson, Yr 6 children had to be quickly School closed: evacuated from their classrooms and were sent down to Norwood’s pretend Bank Holiday Monday 2nd May underground air raid shelter, whilst we waited for the all clear. Teachers and children sang old songs including ‘Run Rabbit’ and ‘Pack up your Troubles in your Old Kit Bag’, Half Term: had a snack of digestive biscuits and water and listened to tales of war-torn Britain. Mon 30th May-Fri 3rd June Luckily, it was a false alarm. Mrs Rimmer and Mrs Rigby, our ARP Wardens, ensured we School closed: were safe from harm and made sure we turned off our lamps when leaving the shelter. Friday 1st July (Staff training day) It was a great opportunity to learn what a child’s life would have been like in 1940! Term Ends: Friday 22nd July. School closes at 2pm Autumn Term 2011 Oh No! - 2. Shinewaves Competition Time Last week’s competition was to write a film review. I enjoyed BUILDING WORK UPDATE reading them all. - 3. Getting to Know Our Governors This week our intrepid reporters, Finn and Taylor, put their questions to Mr Doupe, who as well as being a Governor is also a teacher at Norwood. Q. Is there anything you dislike about your role as a Governor and if so what is it? A. There’s lots of reading to do before and after the meetings! (Finn Cromack Y3) Q. What made you want to be a Governor of Norwood? A. Although being a teacher is a very important job I decided as a Governor it would give me the opportunity to be more involved with important decisions that affect everyone. As a Governor I can help make Norwood an even better place for children to come to. (Molly Glinn Y6) Q. What do you like to do in your spare time? A. I’m a really big music fan and so spend a lot of time listening to all different types of music along with going to one or two live concerts! I also like getting out and about enjoying the many things to do in Southport. (Katy Watkinson Y4) Inspired by their topic work in Yr 2, Isabelle wrote this wonderful poem. Once I got a fright in the night. It was a very scary sight. - 4. Children in the Spotlight Niamh & Brooke took part in a Christmas Show for aerobic gymnastics. Fabulous! Rebecca has passed her Hannah, who plays for yellow belt in Taekwando. Hesketh Colts under Brilliant! tens football team, won man of the match. Jessica has passed Fantastic her level 6 Proficiency Award in Gymnastics. Lost Property Wonderful! Lost property was available for collection on the playground last Forthcoming Events week and a few items were returned to their owners.
