A muffle furnace is a furnace that heats materials indirectly through radiant heating. It uses electrically operated heating elements like nichrome wires to heat air inside a chamber. This heated air then radiantly heats any materials inside, without them touching the heating elements. Muffle furnaces can reach extremely high, precisely controlled temperatures. They are used to test how materials perform at high temperatures in applications like ceramics, semiconductors, heat treatment, and more.
