ANALYSIS
From the adjectives, actions, and adverbs you have
written, describe the characteristics of a learner.
ABSTRACTION
What is a learner?
- an individual who aspires to receive knowledge, skills, and
values in life
- is the center of learning or the recipient of learning.
What are the domains of learning
1. cognitive – mental development of the learner by remembering,
understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating and creating.
2. psychomotor – motor development of the learner – such as:
coordination of motor skills or the physical movement by
perceiving, sitting, responding as a guide, acting, responding
overtly, adapting and organizing.
3. affective - involves feelings, emotions, and attitudes through
receiving, responding, valuing, organizing, and internalizing.
Student-centered Educational philosophy
1. Progressivism – a philosophy rooted on optimism and problem
solving
- John Jacques Rousseau – believes that people are basically
good, and the society can be accountable for corrupting them.
- John Dewey – believes that problem-solving and social
interaction can be the source of learning.
- Progressivist educators
1. do not give inputs to students but focused on the outcomes.
2. Use exploration and experience.
3. Allow students to directly involved in hands-on learning
4. Focus on the learning process
2. Social reconstruction – believes that schools are tools for
solving problems of the society.
- reconstructivist education aims to draw out and suggest
means to improve problems in the society through educating
the minds of all individuals.
- Not just a philosophy – also remedy for objectivity of social
order.
Another perspectives which to be considered in learner
centered instruction:
1. Psychological factors - internal factors that controls the
condition of the learner like attitude and motivation towards
learning
2. External factors - environment outside of the learner can
be constructive or destructive
Individual learning differences
Factors
1. Different capacities and capabilities - heredity and
experience (Nurture provided by teachers, family)
2. Interaction between the learner and his/her curricular
environment conditions – good environmental conditions are
essentials to produce good learning outcomes
APPLICATION
1. List down some teaching activities that students would
enjoy in doing.
