STARTER: 
 Write down the meaning of the word stereotype in your own words: 
A stereotype is an assumption about a group of people based on some of their 
qualities. 
L/Os:
MAIN TASK 1: Describe each characteristic to show the difference 
between this media stereotype and a real teenager. 
You 
(You can insert an 
image of yourself if 
possible) 
Speech: Uses lots of slang 
and offensive words. Not 
very articulate and often 
does not make sense. 
Anything else: 
Appearance: 
Looks not interested 
and doesn’t take care 
about her bodily 
image. 
Body language: 
Slumped over; poor body 
language.

Apparently I always 
look annoyed.

Sat up properly 
most of the time 
but when I’m tired 
I slouch a little bit. 
Speech: Does not use slang, 
speaks correct English. 
Pronounce words properly, 
most of the time.
Extension 1 – Stereotypes and reality: 
1. Which negative characteristics of teenagers have been exaggerated in 
Vicky Pollard? 
That teenagers don’t speak properly, are aggressive bad attitude and 
rude. 
2. Explain in your own words how you are different to a ‘stereotypical’ 
teenager like Vicky Pollard? 
I am different because I don’t speak to people in that type of tone and 
aren’t rude to everyone. 
Extension 2 – Stereotypes across different media 
areas 
(Promotional picture of 50 
cent) 
- Which negative characteristics of young black males have been 
exaggerated in this stereotypical image? 
That they carry guns, are all muscular (imposing that they’re tough) and 
are scary and troublesome.
