Editor's Notes

  • #3: 2) As part of the World Bank’s new Policy on Access to Information and building on the success of the Open Data initiative, the World Bank launched the interactive Mapping for Results (M4R) platform in October 2010. The initiative visualizes the location of World Bank projects to better monitor project and impact on people; to enhance transparency and social accountability; and to enable citizens and other stakeholders to provide direct feedback.
  • #4: Mapping for Results:The World Bank’s entire project portfolio has been mapped:More than 30,000locations mapped for over 2,500active Bank projects For all 143IBRD and IDA countriesIndicator data on infant mortality, maternal health, malnutrition, population density data and Sub-national poverty data
  • #5: This slides shows in the background infant mortality rates at the sub-national level in India. The Map shows thee location of WB-financed projects in the Water and Health sectorskey issues: 1) Are we targeting the areas with the largest needs?--- lagging States agenda 2) Muli-sectoral Analysis- Are we coordinating between sectors- Important Synergies between Health and Water, map however shows that water and health projects are concentrated in different States.
  • #15: Under the ODTA Advisory Service, we are offering support through the following approaches:(1 – orange) Upstream – participatory decision making to inform policy and budgets(2 – red) downstream – ICT-mediated citizen feedback that build on methodologies such as citizen report cards(3 – green) still downstream – monitoring where citizens play a watchdog role and use ICT such as camera equipped phones and other devices to monitor (4 – blue) Mapping– for the purpose of the ODTA support offer we look at open data more narrowly as an enabler for effective participation by visualizing for example project data and budget data on maps and start a conversation around what this mapping revealsFor each of these four categories we have worked with partners to develop tools, the ICT platforms, that support the broader process. For participatory decision making – all our ideasFor citizen feedback and monitoring: Ontrack, Eyano and ComCare HQ For opening project and budget data: Mapping for results, georesults and BOOSTAll of these tools are field tested with the help of Bank projects
