This document outlines 23 major problems facing urban environments and development in Nepal, including inappropriate building systems, poor land management, formation of slums, lack of open spaces and greenery, traffic congestion, health and sanitation issues, air pollution, solid waste management problems, inappropriate policies and weak institutions, limited urban land supply, lack of awareness, negligence, budget and finance issues, encroachment of public spaces, haphazard development pressure, lack of urban design and conservation planning, inefficient management, overlapping functions, improper implementation and violation of laws and bylaws, lack of coordination, lack of political commitment, poor infrastructure knowledge and manpower from authorities, and lack of urban design guidelines.
