Incus Hearing Aid • More than four million people have hearing loss • Blamey Saunders partnered with Planet Innovation to develop a new hearing aid system that incorporates a smartphone app and a Bluetooth-enabled programmer, called Incus • Incus is a small programmer that sits between the hearing aid and smartphone • The user simply and discretely adjusts their hearing aid to suit noise level for whichever environment they’re in, and save the settings • The system has reduced the price of a quality hearing aid from $10,000 to around $3,000

Baidu Recycle App • China is one of the largest producers and recipients of e-waste in the world • Uses an innovative model of connecting consumers, dismantlers and manufactures together using an efficient and user friendly smartphone app • Launched by UNDP China and Baidu, supported by FECO and the Global Environmental Facility • The user can find out a price and recycle their electronic products using a nearby legitimate e- waste pick-up services

Mubser, Egypt • Breakthrough navigational aid tool designed for visually-impaired people • A wearable belt with a Bluetooth-connected headset that guides blind people to move and navigate around common obstacles such as walls, chairs and staircases in a safe and easy way • Mubser recognizes these obstacles by leveraging on RGB imaging and infrared depth data captured by a 3D depth camera and quickly notifies the user through an inbuilt audio device and vibration motor • Developed by Khaled Shady, a 22 year-old Egyptian student and a group of computer engineering students at Menoufia University, Egypt

Solvatten, Sweden • A child dies every 15 seconds as a result of contaminated water • A household water-treatment unit that cleans organically contaminated water with the help of the sun • The device uses natural UV radiation to treat water • In 2-6 hours the water will be drinkable • An indicator shows when it is safe to drink the water • Can also be used as a solar water heater, providing hot water for cooking and hygiene

ALGRAMO, Santiago, Chile • In poor outskirts, staple food come in small quantities • Affordable on a daily basis but works out to cost more than larger sizes in the long run, 40% more expensive • Algramo, a vending machine that dispenses bulk staples including detergents, rice, beans, and lentils • Company fills vending machines, installs them for free in small neighbourhood stores, splitting profit 50-50 • The shorter supply chain cuts out the excess packaging, labelling, and middleman, and products • Installed 125 vending machines in Santiago in six months, reaching an estimated 15,000 people • Will soon expand to all of Latin America within a decade
