- 4. How does this work? • Packet • Packet is “order of worship” • Frequent Evaluations • 80% Mastery
- 5. Typical Day • Practice – (students check own WITH student mentor) • Demonstrations and Labs • Watching lecture (discouraged) • Reading – Reading Guides • Quizzes (graded WITH student) • Tests
- 6. Demonstrations • I perform demonstrations for 3 or 4 students, not for a whole class.
- 7. Labs • 2 or 3 students complete a lab together. • Once they have finished, they meet with me to discuss their understandings.
- 8. Lecture • This student got sick for an extended period. He did not miss a single lecture. He had all the resources he needed to get caught up.
- 9. Practice, Quizzes & Tests • Students practiced until they mastered. • There’s no reason to copy, because if you don’t understand, you don’t move on.
- 11. Hurdles • Access • Chaos • Time • Technology
- 12. AP Chemistry • Not self paced. • Students watch the lectures as homework. • In Class – More time for discussion – More time to answer questions – Time in class to PRACTICE – Labs, demos, etc.
