Mohandas Gandhi was the leader of the Indian independence movement against British colonial rule. He was born in 1869 in Gujarat, India and developed the philosophy of non-violent civil disobedience to achieve political and social progress. Gandhi led the Quit India Movement for full independence, which was achieved in 1947 after much sacrifice. However, Gandhi was assassinated in 1948 by Nathuram Godse, a Hindu nationalist who blamed Gandhi for weakening India.
