- 2. PRODUCTION LOG: GUIDANCE • This document is for you to track the progress of your production – filming, editing and post-production. • This is so you can track what you did and how you did it, explaining and amendments and changes you made and tracking the decisions that have shaped the practical creation of your music video. • The more detail you include about how you made your music video, the better. The document is broken down in to two sections, Filming and Editing, each of these is then made of specific elements that occur in both. • For each slide there is a prompt detailing what you should include, delete the prompt after you have complete the slide. • Remember, images often show what you’ve done more effectively than words. Use text to explain an illustration.

FILMING Explain what worked and didn’t work about your filming and how you managed this covering the following areas: • Technical – Overall I am happy with the camera work however in some of the scenes my camera settings were not correct making it slightly grainy or too dark. This effected my final effect as in some scenes it was very difficult to colour grade using a blue tint. • Logistical – the locations turned out to be very easy however the time of day proved to be difficult as the film schedule did not got to plan and I was forced to film in the evening as my sister was not available at the point. This meant the lighting was not the greatest. • Personnel – when I made the schedule it all went out of the window as previously she had told me that she was free however on the day it turned out she was working. So I film her when she cam back from 5 – 7 when at that point in was pitch black. The next day at 7 in the morning I filmed her for another 30 mins in the morning as it was significantly lighter however she also had work that day. • Planning – I believe the planning saved me a lot of time by structuring the camera shots and editing techniques. It gave me something to follow minimising errors however I did not follow all of the plan such as the time-lapse due to the time of day • Next steps –after the filming I need to work on the animation along with ideas for transitions from animations to camera work
- 4. FILMING – PRODUCTION STILLS In the introduction scene I wanted to focus of keeping the footage smooth however keeping a blur so I filmed at 23.976 fps in order to get that cinematic look. I also lowered the shutter speed allowing shots to have more of a natural blur to them. When changing locations the lighting also changed so I had to change the iso in camera settings in order to adjust the lighting setting and the brightness of the scene with the animation I also kept it at 23.976 fps in order to get some motion blur. I also kept all the animation black and white in order to relate to the vintage tv

EDITING • Record your edit progress, decisions, problems, etc. in this section • Include screenshots with annotations, statements, etc. • Try to explain how you worked and justify why you chose to work the way you did. • Follow the structure and what to include on each slide as this is necessary for evidence for assessment
- 6. EDITING – FILE MANAGEMENT For my footage I saved it all on a memory stick in a folder called music vid. I also saved everything that I needed in this folder. This allowed me to edit the video at home and at college. It also organised my clips in one folder so I would know where all of the camera shots were. I also saved my animation in another folder on my USB called current project so that I would have a folder for all my camera work and a folder for all my animation. This also allowed me to edit the animation at home and at school.
- 7. EDITING – SETTING UP PREMIERE Having saved the adobe premiere file to my USB I set my timeline for 1080p 23.976 fps to match the camera and the animation settings while keeping all the audio settings default. From here in premiere using adobe dynamic link I was able to import the after effects composition directly into premiere with out having to export the adobe after effects timeline.
- 8. EDITING – IMPORTING FOOTAGE For importing I worked scene by scene with my folder with all the clips dragging and dropping specific clips. I also did the same for the song bye bye macadam and audio effects for the old TV
- 9. EDITING – WORKSPACE As you can see from the top there was different preview windows however I only used 3 main windows: Editing, Colour and Effects In the corner I made 3 bins with one called old clips and new clips as I filmed over a 2 day period along with another folder called sound which is where I put my animation along with sound effects and music that I used In the timeline the pink represents the animation while the blue represents the camera work. Green is nested footage however is also camera work.

EDITING – ASSEMBLY EDIT For the camera work I didn’t really need to sync the audio however within the animation I had to sync the audio and I did this by analysing the audio wave forms of the music and matching the visual animation on the individual peaks of the audio wave forms at the beginning I slowed clips down in order to match to the music beat however with the camera work I only had to do this to the clip where she walks up the stairs
- 11. EDITING – REFINEMENT I In adobe premiere I added more nested sequences (overlapped clips) along with changing audio volumes and effects to match the visuals. I slowed some one of the camera clips at the when the actor is walking up the stairs in order to sync it to the audio beat. In adobe aftereffects I continuously refined my editing adding more effects such as CC Lens sun burst and playing around with other distortion effects. However I had to constantly go back and change the points of the animation in order to match the wavelength of the music to be in sync.
- 12. EDITING – COLOUR CORRECTION/SFX For each individual clip I edited the colour changing curves, brightness, vibrance, sharpness, saturation and shadows. After this I used the same lut for each clip (cold blue). This gave the clips a blue tint taking inspiration from Entangled by Lorn for each clip I also applied warp stabilizer to stabilize camera footage especially for moving camera clips. For the final clips I copy and pasted the clips on top on one another and nested the footage so I could apply effect to both of them. For the copied footage I enlarged it changed the base colour to red and set the blend mode to lighten. Afterwards I changed the opacity level in sync with the beat creating an interesting effect
- 13. EDITING – EXPORT I used a pre-set (youtube 1080p). However I made sure I kept the frame- rate at 23.976 in order to maintain the cinematic look at match the fps of the camera work in the export rather than exporting in 60 fps or 30 fps. For the audio I kept it at 48kHz as it is standard for YouTube. I called it dreamer due to the storyline about a girl who starts watching normal TV but falls asleep as dreams that she is watching TV in different locations.
