What’s changing for all of us in the 21 st century? Progress in Science, Technology, ICT, Internet We live longer We don’t work in the same company (4 years as an average) We don’t live in the same place Globalization Rapid rhythm of change in the society and economy
Networking A way of life
1 key example: company Alumni McKinsey, PWC, P&G, Danone, L’Oréal, Mars, Intel, Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, etc What McKinsey does… What Intel does…
WHO AM I? ANDRÉ DAN
WHAT IS NETWORKING?
Did you know that:
Did you know that   A referral generates 80 percent more results than a cold call?   Approximately 70 percent of all jobs are found through networking?   Most people you meet have at least 250 contacts?   Anyone you might want to meet or contact is only two to five people away from you?
The secrets to success lie not in what you do but in how you do it and how well you work with others along the way.    I personally believe in the opportunity to build a vast network of supportive relationships. I believe that people really want to contribute. I believe that we must take care of ourselves to truly be of service to others.
Beware the Networking Mongrel
Networking is not:
Networking is not:   Selling Using people strictly for your gain Coercing or manipulating someone to do what you want Putting friends, neighbors, or associates on the spot Badgering people about your business
Saying Goodbye to the Lone Ranger Mentality
Empower Through Networking
What does an empowered networker look like?
HOW SHOULD I NETWORK?
Validate your objectives Professional Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Timely Personal Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic Timely
Prepare your elevator pitch Make your pitch unique, concise and easy to understand
Your elevator pitch The elevator pitch is a quick (30 seconds) speech about you and the message you want to get across Prepare your elevator pitch ahead of time and rehearse it until it sounds natural Make sure it is interesting and showcases what you can bring to the relationship The goal is to make potential connections be interested in you Make your pitch unique, concise and easy to understand Find examples of elevator pitches on the Internet
Exercise now Find somebody around you that you don’t know yet Remember: non-verbal > 50% A introduces himself to B B introduces himself to A B gives a feed-back to A: content, style A gives a feed-back to B: content, style
