• #4: NFC is a standards-based short-range wireless connectivity technology that makes your smartphones, wearables, tablets and other devices even smarter. NFC is built into over two billion NFC-enabled devices in use and is compatible with hundreds of millions of contactless cards and readers already deployed worldwide. Briefly touch (or ‘tap’) your NFC-enabled smartphone to another NFC-enabled object to share pictures, play music, make payments, access useful information, and more easily set up Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections. No PIN codes, camera-based scanners, or wires are required to use this simple, intuitive technology.

• #14: Interoperability is an ongoing, everchanging technical challenge. This slide is a recently completed public transport certified harmonization of standards among public transport operators lead by the NFC Forum. It can serve, in part, as a blueprint for what could be done in the IoT space. A Future of Public Transport Interoperability The widespread adoption of NFC in Public Transport requires the assurance that NFC-enabled devices will interoperate with existing Public Transport systems throughout the world. Working with industry organizations, standards bodies, and Public Transport Operators, the NFC Forum has succeeded in providing this assurance by harmonizing the specifications of mobile device NFC interface with those of Public Transport readers and cards. Test specifications have been amended accordingly. These actions have provided Public Transport Operators, Mobile Network Operators, and handset manufacturers with a roadmap for accelerating the implementation of NFC-enabled mobile ticketing. The pieces are in place to enable Radio Frequency interoperability for Public Transport systems – without changing Public Transport infrastructures.
• #15: Key takeaway on this slide is the NFC Forum Transport SIG harmonized the specifications of mobile device NFC interfaces and PT readers and cards and established standards for testing mobile devices and PT equipment. We did not do this alone. We drove collaboration with key industry players in both the technical and marketing areas.
• #16: Wireless charging specification expected next year Introduction NFC technology allows transferring power to a Tag in order to enable communication. This is achieved by providing a constant carrier signal. This specification aims to extend this scope and targets to use the NFC communication link to control the power transferred. Thus the pure communication purpose of NFC is extended to wireless charging. The amount of transferred power can be used to charge small NFC enabled devices like smartwatches, activity trackers, headsets and other consumer’s electronics devices. The benefits of the usage of NFC technology for wireless charging are: Use of existing NFC specification for controlling the wireless power charging, Share of the same antenna for communication and power charging. Objectives The objective of this document is to provide the technical foundation for wireless charging at 13.56 MHz using NFC technology. This includes the initiation, control and execution of the wireless power transfer. The scope of this specification is to define the method and procedure to achieve wireless power charging between two NFC wireless charging enabled devices. This specification defines the requirements that ensure interoperability between NFC wireless charging devices.
