Steps 1) Locate systems disk. » Must be for the system being repaired. 2) Insert systems media and boot. » F8 to set boot order. » Adjust BIOS. 3) Select the repair option. » Windows XP enters Recovery Console (RC). » Windows Vista (and newer) enters Recovery Environment (RE). 4) Fix the problem. » Power down. » Remove media. » Power up.

Recovery Environment requires that the bootrec utility is run before using either command. Caution is advised when using fixmbr. RC and RE command line utilities.
