1. Plate tectonics describes how the Earth's crust is broken into plates that move relative to each other as magma circulates underneath. Plates can divide, collide, or slide past one another at their boundaries.
2. There are three types of plate boundaries: divergent where plates move apart, convergent where they move together, and transform where they slide past each other horizontally.
3. At convergent boundaries, the plates squeeze rock as they move together or subduct one beneath the other.
