Things to Avoid Doing When Shooting a Movie By: Ryan Ramshaw, James Baker, Matt Carpenter, Shawn Saylor, Deandre Jones, and Adrian Mobley
Tip # 1: Do Not Use Zoom If you need some close-up shots, zoom in first and then shoot. If necessary, move the camera closer to the subject and avoid zoom entirely. James Baker
Tip #2: Get a Tripod Reportage style cameras will shake and wobble making the picture unpleasant to view. Tripod’s will make your footage smoother and seem more professional. Ryan Ramshaw
Tip #3 Label Tapes Always label the tapes and write a description of the scene to save time when looking for a specific scene. Matt Carpenter
Tip #4 Frame The Scene Try to take the time to frame your subject before you start filming. Let the subject fill the scene in order to eliminate distractions. Shawn Saylor
Tip # 5: Make Sure There is Enough Light Don’t shoot directly in sunlight indoors, make sure the light is turned on if there is not enough illumination from the windows best to use lights only when camera is plugged into mains power Deandre Jones
Tip #6 Don’t Film Continuously Avoid the “hose pipe” method of filming. This refers to pointing the camera and filming continuously, swaying around and not settling on anything. It makes editing a nightmare. Adrian Mobley
