Congo: An Overview
Education in the Congo Source: Nationmaster.com Population with education above the secondary level 25.594 per 1,000 (133 rd  out of 159) Population with education above the tertiary level 1.257 per 1,000 (112 th  out of 146) Literacy Rate 65.5% (129 th  out of 160)
Program Overview Guiding Principles: It is not the place of donor nations to solve problems for the Congolese, but rather to create the potential for the Congolese to help themselves. As the DRC moves forward, its most valuable resource will be its people. A functioning system of education is the primary means through which the DRC can become self- sufficient.
Program Overview Theory of Change:  With a leadership development program coupled with the creation of scholarships for promising students, we can create avenues of opportunity for young Congolese with potential. As they learn the values of servant leadership, they will develop the desire and ability to revitalize their communities and the Congo with their abilities.
Curriculum Intensive week- long residential program with sixteen participants  Seminar- style and peer learning Follow up: Evaluation of participants throughout the year Mentorship training and servant leadership for each student in his or her community
Modules    Personal leadership : Students will learn how to think of themselves and act as leaders in all that they do.    Community leadership : Students will learn the relevance of their leadership skills to the advancement of their communities and their nation.    Socially- responsible leadership : Students will learn that true leadership involves the responsibility to use power in society’s best interest.
Proposed Metrics Short- term Measures: Completion of program by all participants  Pre and post tests and evaluations Formation and success of mentorship projects Monthly updates and progress reports Long- term Measures: Academic performance (standardized tests) University placement Systemic change
