  • #4: Setting the stage – ask the participants about their topics and pain points / challenges Common language –Paradigm - Methodology/ Research Strategy – Method of data collection – Instrument of data collection Choice of the Research STRATEGY ? – Begin with the hierarchy? Data? Research Qs? What is CS research – deals with data of both Qs; belongs to POSITIVIST paradigm ; NOT Grounded Theory ( Glazer & Strauss, 1967)
  • #5: Which one of them do you think would be most appealing to the examiner? These are situations based on the ‘state of the knowledge” of the topic?
  • #6: Q Vs. Q – on data OR philosophical beliefs – POSITIVIST Vs. INTERPRETIVIST Ethnography is a method of data collection – close up observations in real world setting All data are Qualitative – ‘politicized’ : Clayton Christensen Qualitative Data – unstructured data – open ended responses, interview , Video & audio recordings, social media, web pages and pictures
  • #7: Research Questions have both substance – what is my study about? & form – type of question Organizational Research What are the more interesting types of questions? Why? – a personal/ individual perspective ? Richness Process Story Nature of Organizational phenomenon Nature of management issues / challenges

  • #9: CS is the choice when you believe the contextual conditions would be pertinent to your phenomenon of study Experiment deliberately divorces a phenomenon from its context so that attention on a few variables – in fact controls the context thru lab experiment History deals with the entangled situation between phenomenon & context , but non-contemporary Survey can theoretically attend to both , but has a practical limitation on the no. of variables it can deal with
  • #12: Critical Reading : Not information , but look for ways of thinking about the subject matter – Central Claims and reasoning to support the same Critical Writing: Evaluate the arguments & conclusions of others & structure your presentation – your evidence , arguments & conclusions
