Architecture and Urban Design: The Barcelona Example

EDUCATION - Graduate in History of Art at the University of Barcelona (UB).    - I have the CAP teaching certificate (Certificado de Aptitud Pedagógica).     - Master on Teaching Spanish as a foreign language at the UIMP (Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo). - Master on  Contemporary Film and Audiovisual Studies at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra ( 2011-2012 / 2012-2013)  
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE   Teaching World Contemporary History and Spanish Contemporary History. Teaching History of Art. Teaching Spanish as a foreign language. Teaching Catalan.

What’s your name? Where are you from? How many languages do you speak? What are you studying now? Why did you choose to come at Barcelona? Why are you interested in this subject? (Please be honest) What would you like to learn with this subject? Do you have any expectation about this subject?
During the following 3 months we are going to study the town alterations in Barcelona and their evolution until today.  We will need to: Study the proper language for Architecture and Town Planning. 2. Study the characteristics of the main architects and engineers involved in the evolution of the city as well as the historical and social context of this evolution. 3. Compare Barcelona with other cities. 4. Discover Barcelona: explore, observe, consolidate and comment.
 
 
During this curse we are going to: Get knowledge about the history of architecture and town planning. 2. Evaluate our environment and adapt to it. 3. Develope a critical thinking: What ideas and intentions are there behind the architectural styles? How are spaces used?
 
25% Class participation  Classroom interaction (5%) Field studies and journal (10%) Attendance  and homework (10%) 20% Midterm written exam  ( February  23th) Up to unit 3.3 in the syllabus   25% Final written exam ( April 26 th ) Covering the whole list of contents   30% Final project  ( April 19 th ) 15% Written paper 15% Class presentation
Both exams will consist on two parts with the same grading: Part I  Multiple choice questions: there will be 3 options and only 1 correct.  The midterm exam will consist on 25 questions y the final exam 50.  Part II Develop 2 topics or works previously commented in class. 4 pictures or topics will be given and the student will choose 2 which they will have to comment in 1 page (1 side per work).  To be valued:  -Focusing on relevant information. -Expressing correctly. -Ability to synthesize.
1.  Dalí y Gaudí: Influencias y divergencias. 2.  Gaudí y la Colonia Güell.  3.  El Mercado de Santa Catalina. 4.  El Pabellón Mies van der Rohe. 5.  Puig i Cadafalch y la Fábrica Casa Ramona.  6.  La Manzana de la discordia.  7.  Barrio de Barcelona (elegir uno y hablar de su historia, tradiciones...) Aviso: no se puede incluir El Barri Gótic, El Raval, La Barceloneta,  El Born ni L’Eixample. 8.  Lluís Domènech i Montaner y El Castell dels Tres Dragons. Gaudí y el diseño de muebles. Locales modernistas.  Propuestas de trabajo. February 2ond: Deadline to send me an e-mail with the chosen topic.  February 23th: Topic presentation on class.
General characteristics.   Presentation of the topic and its relevance in the introduction.  2. Historical context: historical, social and political frame.  3. Artistic and philosophical context: Main artistic and aesthetic movements related to the topic.  4.Topic development: Sections which frame the topic.  Outlines:  Artists: Relevance and general career.  Ideas which underlie the artistic works and their evolution.  5. Conclusion: The main ideas of the topic will be drawn and its relevance and influence on art today will be assessed
The following will be valued: Critical thought and discernment. Ability to synthesize.  Ability to interrelate ideas belonging to different fields. Originality. Clear and accurate writing. Bibliography, webgraphy and visual resources.  Formal characteristics.   1.  The work must have a front cover with the title, name of the subject, year, name of the student and name of the professor. An Index of contents will be required. 2. You can use either Arial (11) or Times New Roman (12).  3. Spacing: 1.5. 4. The length of the writing work is a minimum of 10 pages and a maximum of 20. Front cover,  pictures , index and bibliography are not included.
5. The bibliography and webgraphy must be attached in an appendix (Appendix I). 6. The pictures must be attached in a different appendix (Appendix II). The pictures of paintings must include title, author and year. The photographs must include a brief text and the year.  7. The work must be accurate and argued with relevant bibliography.  8. The bibliography quotes will be presented as footnotes. 9. The final project must be handed in both in printed version and pdf the same day of the presentation. The document of the work presentation must be handed in with the writing work.
