Presentation script
The start of my project I knew I wanted to make a video game but I didn’t know what I was
going to do or how to go about it, so I started my project with some contextual research and
a pitch for my idea. This was just a rough draft phase but I got so many ideas and could
narrow down and cut out ideas from this. My idea to start off with was a video game
animation and this was a great idea but later on I discovered it is not what I wanted to
create because looking at university courses swayed me down a different path. The final
outcome I had for my project was to create a concept pitch for a video game. This was
unique and something that I’d never tried before but I was up for the challenge and believe I
created something great in the end.
The next phase of my project was researching and during this I looked at existing games and
what works for them and then I analysed them in detail so I could get Inspiration for my
game. Games I looked at were Skyrim, Baldur’s Gate and final Fantasy which are all well-
known professional Fantasy genre games which are very popular. This research was a key
phase because it determined what genre and style my game were going to be and you can
really see the reflections upon my designs and these games/art. It also determined my
audience for the type of game I was making.
Planning was one of the largest parts of my project because it had to be detailed in many
aspects. In planning I designed the whole backstory to the game, characters included. In
planning although I created some HUD layouts I didn’t include them in my assets but they
will be good to just choose from at a later date. Planning was one of the areas that I came
back to later on in the project to thicken out the content of what I was coming up with.
Planning is very important because it shapes up everything that is made in production and
for the final outcome. Mine decided for me the colour scheme and fonts that I was going to
use in my game.
Once all of the stages above were done it was now starting time to make my product which
is a video game concept, the project itself took me a total of 14 weeks to make, and this is
including planning and reflections. The work I have come out with is new and different and I
believe that it shows of new skills I have learnt nicely. If I had more time I would have liked
to have learnt more just about general gaming software but this project was a big stepping
stone for me. Parts of my production you can see have carried across from earlier segments
in the project such as influential styles of buildings and colour schemes. Gaming engines like
unity that I used were rather different and I think that I picked up on a beginner’s level
nicely and hope that this is the beginning of my future. The idea of 2D and 3D might confuse
people but what I have made is special to me and I believe that it works and shows of my
idea greatly. The backgrounds were fantastic and simple in their 2D designs showing off
certain aspects of fantasy and intriguing the audience. The 3D assets were just a show off
me learning new skills and using them to show what the game has the potential to be. I am
not a coder so this is not a perfect made a game project so this is something I could possible
look into for my future but I would rather focus on art and concepts.
After this the final part of my project was evaluating everything, evaluations is one of my
weakest points in projects but what I have done here reflects well upon my entire project
and I have done reflections on nearly every aspect of my project and production. If I were to
change anything in this project it would have been just having more time to create more
content, I wouldn’t have done anything else other than that because I like the personal
connection this project has given me and all the effort I have put into my documents and
production. In Evaluations I talked about how and why I made my products as well as if they
reflect upon the audience and this is all that an evaluation really needs but it had to be
detailed and cover all aspects so I could come out with a good grade. Overall I am really
happy with what I have made here and hope that you like my idea as well.
