Why online presentation tools?Tools available via any web-connected computerNew way to express creativity (including audiovisuals)Gets students using new technologies to help make them 21st century learners
New way to look at PresentationsWe often think of PowerPoint for presentations, but the web offers alternatives to the paid software:Google PresentationPreziAnimotoCreazaSlideRocketMixbookGlogster EDUSo many more…HUGE list at cool tools for schools: http://cooltoolsforschools.wikispaces.com/Presentation+Tools

Presentations & screencasting
What is ScreencastingDigital recording of the computer screen, with or without audio narrationSometimes called a video capture or video capturingVery useful for when you need to show a process, like:Using the library catalog or a databaseUsing a certain websiteUsing software, like WordDoing a certain process, like working through a math problem
Why screencasting for You?Showing a process rather than telling how to do it can sometimes be more helpful, particularly for students who learn better visually and not through lectureCan help with repetitiveness – instead of telling a process over and over, maybe a screencast can help?
Why screencasting for students? Can help students with these skills:Planning & researchSynthesize & evaluate the informationScript writing – introduction, body, conclusionDelivery of the presentation – how do they get the process across in clear, concise ways? How well does presentation stick to topicTechnical productionResponsible use of music and/or imagesIf part of a group assignment - teamwork
Presentations & screencasting
By the end of MILI you need to…Make a presentation or a screencast with one of these tools to show what you learned in MILI and how you can apply it either with students or for your own professional developmentThis is the final, required projectYou will show your presentations during our last month’s meeting
Your presentation can be about…A tool or two that you like and how you plan on using it/them for yourself or with studentsA tool or concept and how it’s helped you better understand the new web 2.0 worldSomething you’ve already created or used and what it’s done for your professional life or your classroom
Presentations in MayThese presentations or screencasts must be completed by our May meeting – you will be showing them thenPresentations can be short – 3-5 minutes would be just fineThis is to reflect and be positive and talk about something you liked that will continue to help you in the future
before our meetingExplore Google Presentation and write a blog post about itCheck out the other sites I mention – come to the session with some questions about themWrite some blog posts about your thoughts or experiences in MILI – many people are pretty low when it comes to blog posts. You should be in the 30s now or close to 30.Yes, some interactions in the Forums and/or replying to other blog posts counts, but if you have been doing a lot of that, you should still have at least 20 of your own blog posts.
Next meetingsMonday, April 11 – Sanford4:45-6:45pmTuesday, April 12 – South High4-6pmThursday, April 21 – Southwest High4-6pm
