- 2. What is a Record Label? A record Label is a brand/trademark associated with the marketing of music recordings and music videos. They manage a singer/band, or scout for new and developing artists. Below are different types of Record Lables.

Independent Record Label The type of record label I have chosen to sign my artist to is Independent, this is because I feel that my artist has an unique voice, where the record label looks for unique, emerging artists. Other artists like: Lenka, Kate Nash, birdy, Ben Howard, Mumford and sons, would fit into the criteria of the record label. This is because each artist can be recognised for most importantly their voice, but also independent things about them whether it be their fashion sense, style of dance, or even lifestyle.

Print Records Print Records Label launched in 2010, who focus around the genre Indie Pop who occasionally vary off the genre but not to an extreme for example Indie Pop and Indie Rock, NOT Indie Pop to Rap. Due to this they have appointed only around 20 artists as making the Record Large the artists start to copying each and have a similar sound this includes: Florence and the Machines, Noah and the whales, The Hoosiers, Regina Spektor. Many of these artist have been scouted by either heading for other artists or even playing in Pubs. The Logo for my Record label is at the top.
- 5. Copyright This is a legal concept, made by the government proving creator/owner with exclusivity rights. The records to insure that they don’t become victims of fraud, insist that the music video must be referenced by the user with all credit going to the artist and record label. As my work is non profitable and purely for recreational reasons, where I will correctly reference all parties involved, I will not defy the rules of copyrights
- 6. Copyright To ensure I do not break the rules of copyright I will add my logo to my digipack along with the copyright logo, I have also sent an email to the record company of my artist asking permission to use their song for media production and that it won’t be used for promotion or to earn money. The footage within my Music video must be my own, not downloaded from another video.
- 7. Reflection.... Through this research of Records Labels, I have learnt that building a portfolio my artist will consist of building her background (in this case her Record Label). Due to this when audiences recognise my Record Label they understand what genre my artist falls within, what kind of style they are representing, and different artists that are under the same record. Through researching the legal side of my Records Label i.e. Copyright I have realised certain aspects that need to be done to my Media Products so that it is legal or I claim ownership over. For example added the copyright sign to my Digipak tells my audience that the particular piece of work belongs to me. Another example is footage for my music video must be all mine and not take off the internet due to copyright.
