        Exposition scene

This was our first week of shooting the
exposition scene. Here, the audience are
introduced to the main character ‘Harry’. In
relation to location for the exposition, the

house. The first scene establishes the setting
                                                                                                               of the main characters bedroom.
Was any dialogue used?

For this part of the exposition, no dialogue is How was the scene shot?
used. However, the audience does hear the We shot the scene from a variety of angles; the first shot type that was used was a high
protagonist snoring and murmuring once angle, which was used to reveal the mise-en-scene( background, props , setting and most
woken up by his alarm. The use of sound is importantly the characters actions and movements). This shot was evident, because it
evident here because again it shows some showed the characters reaction to waking up which would be useful for the audience as it
drama is taking place. showed some form of drama was happening in the shot, rather than the reveal of scenery
                                                  only.
PRODUCTION LOG: WEEK 2 (FIRST WEEK OF SHOOTING)

Here is another shot type we used for the first half of the
exposition and from a different angle. The shot type that we The previous shot that was taken only showed the characters
chose to use here was a medium shot, however from a low facial reaction to his alarm going off. However, in this shot
angle as previously in the first shot the camera is placed on a props such as the alarm was shown to indicate to the
higher angle, on the tripod. It was important to use a variety of audience, what had caused the drama, or begun the action of

audience would become different each time.

                                  Changing the setting
The images here are of the
                                  main character getting
                                  ready for college, however
                                  in the bathroom which is
                                  different part of the
                                  location. The camera has
                                  been placed towards the
                                  mirror to create the illusion
                                  that the audience are
                                  watching the protagonist
                                  through it.
Production log: WEEK 2 (First week of
              shooting)

This part of filming is the
                              development of the exposition
and also a change within setting
as the character is now outside
of the home. Filming this part of
                              the exposition was perhaps the
                              most challenging, as the getting
the right shot and angle would
be difficult in such a compressed
                              space. However, this was
                              successfully done as we placed
                              the camera and tripod at
                              different distances. We also shot
the back and front of character
to create an idea that the
                              audience were following him on
                              his journey.

                           Last scene of exposition

The two images above show the last piece of filming that was done for the exposition. In
comparison to the other shots taken in relation to the first half of the exposition, shooting in
this location appeared to be the easiest. This was because we were shooting in a wider
space, which meant the camera could be placed at an even further distance, and the mise –
en – scene worked extremely well, because it allowed members of the public to be included
in the shot which added more realism to the sequence.

In this work shop, we learnt how to balance the camera on the tripod, as well learning how to use the camera. This was our week of shooting the first part of the short film.
