in a social environment.- Dr.Kilpatrick
A project is a bit of real life that has been
imparted into the school.- Ballard
Collins classifies project as exploration,
construction, communication, play and skill.

The principle of freedom
The principle of activity
The principle of experience
The principle of utility
The principle of interest
STEPS INVOLVED IN A PROJECT
Providing a situation
Choosing and purposing
Planning
Carrying out the project(executing)
Evaluating
Recording
PURPOSE
While choosing project method the teacher
should feel that it is real need of students. They
should know its purpose.
The purpose of the project should result in
knowledge gaining, application oriented and
leave the strong impression of concept in mind.
Project mthod
EXECUTION or WORKING OUT
The working out of the project should
be directed towards the final realizations
of the objective.
The difficulties in the execution of the
project may have the tendency to leave it
partially done. So teacher should help
and encourage pupil to complete the
project.
EVALUATING
Judgements includes suggestions for
improvement in what has been done.
The improvement may be done by addition,
elimination, completion and modification for
the various phases of the project.
RECORDING
The things to be recorded are,
The choice of the project.
Its planning
Discussion’s held
Duties assigned
References and books consulted
Difficulties felt
Experiences gained
Guidance sought and
Important points for future reference &
guidance.
CHARACTERISTICS OF A GOOD
PROJECTS
It should be useful
It should be economical.
It should provide for best
learning experiences.
ADVANTAGES
It makes the pupils to reason out.
They learn by doing by themselves.
The students learn the concepts
much more rapidly.
DISADVANTAGES
Project method is very expensive.
Ordinary schools cannot afford this
method.
This method expects too much from the
teacher. Every teacher cannot be
expected to be efficient in each subject.
CONCLUSION
Project should be used only to
supplement the classroom teaching.
Formal teaching should be provided
for those subjects which are
neglected by the project eg. Practice
in spelling pronunciation should be
given directly.
