Teachers should encourage students to generate and test hypotheses using inductive or deductive reasoning, and to explain their conclusions to develop oral language skills. Representing similarities and differences between concepts graphically or symbolically enhances students' ability to identify and understand relationships, and there are four main forms of doing so: comparing, classifying, creating analogies, and creating metaphors.
