WHAT MAKES
 GOD SMILE?

     Section 9
   (Pages 69-76)
“May the Lord smile
on you….”
            Num. 6:25

“Smile on me your
servant; teach me the
right way to live.”
            Ps. 119:135
The LORD said to Moses, "Tell
Aaron and his sons, 'This is how
you are to bless the Israelites. Say
to them:
"'"The LORD bless you and keep
you;
the LORD make his face shine
upon you and be gracious to you;
the LORD turn his face toward you
and give you peace."'
Make your face shine upon your
servant and teach me your
decrees.
[God] Laugh(s) - NIV
Psalm 59:8 - But you, O LORD,
laugh at them; you scoff at all
those nations.
Psalm 2:4 - The One enthroned in
heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at
them.
Psalm 37:13 -but the Lord laughs
at the wicked, for he knows their
day is coming.
Pleasing God is the first
 purpose in your life -
   how do you do it?
How do you make God
        smile?

        Eph 5:8
Noah’s day - world
morally corrupt,
bankrupt.
According to Gen.
6:8 “Noah was a
pleasure to the
Lord.” (amp. Bible)
We learn from
Noah’s life 5 acts of
worship that makes
God smile.
1) God smiles when we
     love him supremely

Noah loved God more than anyone else in
the world.
“Noah consistently followed God’s will
and enjoyed a close relationship with
Him.”
                                       Gen. 6:9b
God longs for relationship with you.
“I don’t want your sacrifices-I want your love; I
don’t want your offerings-I want you to
know Me.”
                                          Hos. 6:6
“Love the Lord your God with all your
heart and with all our should and with all
your mind. This is the first and greatest
commandment.”
                                      Mt. 22:37-38
2) God smiles when we
     trust Him completely
“By faith, Noah built a
ship in the middle of
dry land. He was
warned about
something he couldn’t
see, and acted on
something he was
told… As a result, Noah
became intimate with
God.” Heb. 11:7
3 Problems that faced Noah:
1. Noah had not seen rain - God had watered
the earth from the ground up before the
flood.
2. Noah lived 100’s of miles from an ocean
3. How would Noah round up all the animals?
Noah trusted God!
120 years
No sign of rain
“He takes pleasure in those that honor
Him: in those that trust in His
constant love.”
                               Ps. 147:11.
“Without faith it is impossible to
please God.”
                                Heb. 11:6
3) God smiles when we
  obey Him wholeheartedly

“So Noah did everything exactly as God
had commanded him.”
                               Gen 6:22
Delayed obedience is really
disobedience
We often try partial
obedience - we pick and
choose what commands we
shall obey.
What commands do I like,
what is unreasonable,
expensive, difficult, unpopular?
I don’t tithe, don’t forgive,
don’t...
David said, “Just tell me what to do
and I will do it, Lord. As long as I live
I will wholeheartedly obey.”
                                  Ps. 119:33
“We please God by what we do and
not only by what we believe”
                                 James 2:24
4) God smiles when we praise
  and thank Him continually

Noah brought pleasure to God by living a life
of heartfelt praise and appreciation
“Then Noah built an altar to the
Lord… and sacrificed burnt offerings
on it.”
Gen. 8:20
Hebrews 13:15
Through Jesus, therefore, let us
continually offer to God a sacrifice of
praise—the fruit of lips that confess his
name.
As we offer God praise and thanksgiving - we
find our own hearts are filled with joy.
Psalm 68:3 says, “The righteous are glad
and rejoice in His presence: they are
happy and shout for joy.”

5) God smiles when we
        use our abilities
Get on with your life Noah - Genesis 9:1, 3
Then God blessed Noah and his sons,
saying to them, "Be fruitful and
increase in number and fill the
earth...Everything that lives and moves
will be food for you. Just as I gave you
the green plants, I now give you
everything.
God enjoys every part, and every ability, of your
life. There are no unspiritual abilities, just misused
ones. Start using yours for God’s pleasure.
God enjoys every part, and every ability, of your
life. There are no unspiritual abilities, just misused
ones. Start using yours for God’s pleasure.
“The steps of the Godly are directed by
the Lord. He delights in every detail of
their lives.”
                                      Ps. 37:23
You do not bring glory to God by hiding or
         refusing to use your abilities
God says, “You have no right to argue
with your Creator. You are merely a clay
pot shaped by a potter. The clay doesn’t
ask, ‘Why did you make me this way?’ ”
                                        Is. 45:9
2 Corinthians 5:9 Paul says, “So we make it
our goal to please him, whether we are
at home in the body or away from it.”

God is still looking for people with the same
               heart as Noah today:
“The Lord looks down from Heaven on
all mankind to see if there are any who
are wise, who want to please God,”
                                       Ps. 14:2
Point to Ponder:

God smiles when I trust him.
Verse to remember:

Psalm 147:11

the LORD delights in those who fear
him,
who put their hope in his unfailing love.
Question to Consider:

Since God knows what is best, in what
areas of my life do I need to trust Him
most?
