A syringe pump is a small infusion
pump (some include infuse and withdraw
capability), used to gradually administers
small amounts of fluid (with or without
medication) to a patient or for use in
chemical and biomedical research.
 Infusion only pumps:
-the syringe plunger is pushed
forward by the motor to deliver
the liquid.
 Infusion /withdrawal pumps:
-functions same as the infusion pump
but at the end of the run,the motor
reverses & the syrnge plunger moves in the
opposite direction causing the syringe to
fill again.
 Push/Pull and continuous flow pumps:
-Push/Pull pumps are a variation of the infusion
withdrawal pump, except that the syringes are
opposing each other.
 High Pressure Pumps:
-syringe pumps are controlled by a rotating screw
thread driven by a motor, they will deliver a fixed
amount of linear force. The amount of pressure
that force will translate into is dependent on the
diameter of the syringe. A small diameter syringe
will generate a much higher pressure than a wide
diameter syringe.
 Low Flow Rate Pumps:
-The more steps and the finer the threads, the
less the plunger will move and the more smoothly it
will move.
 Syringe pump is designed for precise dosage of drugs and
infusion fluids to the patient. It is intended for:
• Intensive care units,
• Cardio surgery units,
• Pediatric units,
• Operating theatres,
• Ambulances.
The pump is simple to operate, reliable and is of general
application. It is suitable for various types of single-use
syringes. BOLUS function enables quick and repeated
delivery of bolus doses to the patient, with accurately
established volume and within a specified infusion time.
Pump can operate without connection to the mains. The
pump is automatically supplied by the internal battery in
cases, e. g. of mains failure. It also enables to continue
the infusion when the patient is being transported.
Simple casing, without any parts protruding from the
front panel, facilitates maintenance and disinfection.
FEATURES:
FLOW RATE RANGE: 0.1-200ml/h(depending on the syringe capacity- up to
1200ml/hr)
Syringe capacities: 5, 10, 20, 30/35, 50/60 CC.
Bolus: Manual bolus: Rate 50-1200 ml/h (50 ml/h increments).
Pressure modes: 2 modes available: variable or 3 pre-set levels - From 100 to
900mmHg, 50 mmHg increment.
 PUMP MECHANISM
 BATTERY MANAGEMENT
 USER INTERFACE
 DISPLAYS/KEYBOARD
 SELF TEST & SYSTEM MONITORING
 ALARMS
 TIMEKEEPING
 The design and construction of syringe pumps must
follow precisely documented processes.The equipment
also must contain comprehensive self-test and fault-
indication capabilities.
 Electrical leakage to the patient is a significant concern.
 Even though the pump is a patient-connected device,
the connection is nonconductive, so it falls in the least-
stringent category (type B).
 Syringe pumps must be portable, since patients need to
be mobile both within the hospital and at home.
The devices must be battery powered, relatively small,
and relatively lightweight.
Syringe pumps are small pumps operated by
driving a syringe via a very precise motor.
Changing the syringe allows a wide range of flow
rates on the same pump.
They are used for infusion, infusion &
withdrawal and continuous flow applications.
In a syringe pump, fluid is held in the reservoir
of a syringe, and a moveable piston controls
fluid delivery.
Syringe pumps are also useful for delivering IV
medications over several minutes.
While using the syringe pump the safety
measures must be kept in check
