Description
RUREDIL X MESH GOLD is an innovative Fiber-Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (FRCM)
composite system for the repair and strengthening of concrete structures. It comprises
of the reinforcing Polyparaphenylene Benzobis Oxazole (PBO) fabric that works as a
continuous reinforcement and RUREDIL X MORTAR 750 cement-based adhesive that
anchors the PBO fabric to concrete substrate.
PBO is a high strength, unidirectional fabric with primary direction of fiber oriented in the
0º direction. RUREDIL X MORTAR 750 is a cement-based adhesive that must be mixed
with water in the job site.
Use
	 Provides additional flexural, shear or compressive strength to concrete structural
elements;
	 Supplements cross sectional loss of corroded reinforcing steel;
	 Seismic retrofit .
Applications
	 Interior and exterior;
	 Vertical and overhead;
	 Concrete substrate;
	 Reinforced and pre-stressed concrete;
Product Highlights
	 ICC-ES ESR-2013 listed product;
	 Level of reinforcement is comparable to Fiber Reinforced Polymer that uses carbon
fiber and epoxy resin.:
	 Level of strengthening can be customized through the application of one or more
sheets of PBO Fabric.;
	 Once applied the system does not alter the response to fire of reinforced concrete and
therefore fire protection is not required, even for indoor applications. ;
	 Durable in conditions in conditions of high environmental temperature
since the system is not characterized by glass transition temperature limitations
	 Does not deteriorate when exposed to alkali environment Ca(OH)2 Na(OH) K(OH) at
pH>9.5 . ;
	 Can be applied after rain over damp substrates, which make the composite ideal for
emergency applications;
	 Not affected by moisture, it maintains its performance properties over time in humid
environments;

pressitintotheadhesive.EachsheetofPBOFabricmustbetotallyencapsulated
in the thickness of RUREDIL X MORTAR 750 adhesive.
• If the structural design requires two sheets of PBO Fabric, add a second layer
RUREDIL X MORTAR 750 adhesive at 1/8 to 1/6 in (3 to 4 mm) thickness, a
second sheet of PBO fabric and embed it into the thickness of the adhesive.
• Repeat the sequence as specified by the designer. Usually RUREDIL X MESH
GOLD composite system requires from 1 to 3 sheets of PBO Fabric.
• Complete the installation adding a final layer of RUREDIL X MORTAR 750
adhesive at 1/8 to 1/6 in (3 to 4 mm)thickness so as to encapsulate the final
sheet of PBO Fabric.
• Each layer of RUREDIL X MORTAR 750 adhesive must be applied when the
previous layer is still wet and has not hardened.
• If the surface of RUREDIL X MORTAR 750 adhesive has hardened, sandblast it
before applying a new layer of adhesive.
• PBO Fabric must be lapped 6 inches minimum in the primary direction of
fiber orientation. No lapping of the fabric is usually required in the secondary
direction.
•	 RUREDIL X MORTAR 750 must be applied from 40 to 105°F (5 to 40°C). Follow
ACI 305 and 306 for application in hot and cold weather.

Figure 1. Beam geometry
A simply supported concrete beam is reinforced with three No. 3 bars in tension and two No. 3
bars in compression. Dimensions and reinforcement details are shown in Figure 1. Effective span
of the beam is 60 in. The design compressive strength of concrete is f!
!
= 5000psi and steel
rebars are grade 75. Shear reinforcement of the beam is designed to prevent failure exclusively
due to shear. The beam is under-reinforced in accordance with ACI 318-14 guidelines, and meets
the minimum reinforcement requirements. Theoretical design capacity of the beam is 19.3 kip-ft.
The following is an example calculation of strengthening the beam with three layers of PBO
FRCM according to ACI 549.4R-13 design guidelines. Material characteristics of the FRCM system
are obtained through experimental testing per AC434-16. Based on the calculation, three layers
of PBO FRCM provide 36% increase in terms of design ultimate capacity (26.3 kip-ft) compared to
the unstrengthened beam (19.3 kip-ft).

  • 7. Figure 1. Beam geometry A simply supported concrete beam is reinforced with three No. 3 bars in tension and two No. 3 bars in compression. Dimensions and reinforcement details are shown in Figure 1. Effective span of the beam is 60 in. The design compressive strength of concrete is f! ! = 5000psi and steel rebars are grade 75. Shear reinforcement of the beam is designed to prevent failure exclusively due to shear. The beam is under-reinforced in accordance with ACI 318-14 guidelines, and meets the minimum reinforcement requirements. Theoretical design capacity of the beam is 19.3 kip-ft. The following is an example calculation of strengthening the beam with three layers of PBO FRCM according to ACI 549.4R-13 design guidelines. Material characteristics of the FRCM system are obtained through experimental testing per AC434-16. Based on the calculation, three layers of PBO FRCM provide 36% increase in terms of design ultimate capacity (26.3 kip-ft) compared to the unstrengthened beam (19.3 kip-ft).
