Introduction
SISCob aims at developing a new intelligent and modular
device mimicking the functions of biological articulations and
their synergy for collaborative robots (cobots).
 SISCob: Safety Intelligent Sensor for cobot
What is a Robot ?
 Random House Dictionary A machine that resembles a
human being and does mechanical routine tasks on
command.
 Robotics Association of America An industrial robot is a
re-programmable, multifunctional manipulator designed
to move materials, parts, tools or specialized devices
through variable programmed motions for the
performance of a variety of tasks.
 Robotics is a field of engineering that deal with design and
application of robots and the use of computer for their
manipulation and processing.
 Automation and Robotics Engineering is the use of control
systems and information technologies to reduce the need for
human work in the production of goods and services..
What is Robotics ?
 This Safety Intelligent Sensor (SIS) device will connect the
output shaft of an actuator (a motor for eg.) to a robot link
or to the end-effector when the actuator is in its terminal
position.
 A manipulator is composed of a series of links connected to
each other via joints. Each joint usually has an actuator
connected to it.
What is SISCob ?
 These actuators are used to cause relative motion between
successive links. One end of the manipulator is usually
connected to a stable base and the other end is used to
deploy a tool

does SIS
Works
with
robots ?
SISCobot
SIS will ensure the safe functioning of the robot itself and the
safe interaction with the surrounding environment by
providing the following services:
 An adaptive tunable compliant mechanical structure
managing high frequency physical interactions;
 An online estimation of impedance models exploitable for
predictive control;
 A real-time data transmission, allowing SISs to
communicate as agents within an ad hoc body area sensor
network that a central control unit can interrogate.
Graphical Representation
 Single Ended Encoder-Single-ended signaling is the simplest
and most commonly used method of transmitting electrical
signals over wires. One wire carries a varying voltage that
represents the signal, while the other wire is connected to a
reference voltage, usually ground.
 Double Ended Sensor- Differential signaling is a method for
electrically transmitting information using two
complementary signals. The technique sends the same
electrical signal as a differential pair of signals, each in its
own conductor. The pair of conductors can be wires
(typically twisted together) or traces on a circuit board.
 The ADSP-21262 is the first member of the third-
generation of SHARC® programmable DSPs. A range of
applications such as high-quality audio and automotive
entertainment systems, voice recognition, medical
appliances and measurement devices benefit from the
ADSP-21262’s integration of large on-chip memory
with a wide variety of peripherals—thereby speeding
time to market and keeping costs low.
