The thesis defense discusses routing protocols for efficient multimedia distribution over wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSNs) and flying ad-hoc networks (FANETs). It proposes two routing protocols: MEVI, a hierarchical routing protocol for static WMSNs; and XLinGO, a beaconless opportunistic routing protocol for multimedia FANETs. Evaluation results show MEVI improves network lifetime and video quality over existing protocols for WMSNs. For FANETs, XLinGO recovers from route failures faster than alternatives through a dynamic forwarding mechanism using link quality and location data.
