Solutions Dept. Presentation

Editor's Notes

  • #3: EN: Greetings ladies and gentlemen! My name is Denis Strakh and I represent Solutions Department. In my part of the report, I would like to tell you about the departments and teams participating in the development of Wialon.
  • #4: Basically, everyone you meet on the 7th floor participates in Wialon development. Wialon is not only Wialon Hosting as a SaaS solution but also a number of various additional services and auxiliary systems. Various tasks that appear are performed by several technical departments. They are IDev, QA, and Solutions. Head of IDev department is Nickolay Kurdesov. This department is responsible for: Wialon datacenter Hardware support Development of such services as company’s website, forum, and blog. Next, head of QA department is Vladimir Nedved’. They test tasks performed by iDev & Solutions. They analyze cases when a user faces a problem with Wialon. And I’m the head of Solutions department. So, I would like tell you more about my department (our teams/work).
  • #5: Currently, Wialon is developed by 6 teams. It is about 24 highly qualified specialists. Depending on tasks, different teams work together, closely cooperating with each other. Server-side team and its lead, Oleg Chirich, deal with platform architecture. They work on system logic and algorithms, and provide remote API for communication with Wialon server. There are several client-side teams: First of all, Hosting team. Its lead is Alexey Demidenko. This team implements new features for Wialon Hosting. Next, Labs team and its lead Alexey Shmigelski. This team implements Wialon Apps and additional services for integration with other systems. The third client-side team is Mobile team. Its lead is Pavel Korolev. They develop mobile applications such as Wialon Mobile Client, WiaTag, Dashboard and others. We have 2 shared teams — designers and technical writers. The lead designer is Evgeni Maliukov. Our designers are responsible for the interface and usability of our programs. Technical Writers and their lead Katerina Alexandrova are responsible for user guides and manuals, and also for the glossary and terms used in our programs. Moreover, Katerina acts as a system analyst for our main product Wialon Hosting. All of us can resolve any technical issues, just feel free to ask :)
  • #6: Now I’m going to tell you how we work on new features. There are 3 basic sources of receiving information on customers’ needs: Sales and Support departments dealing with clients and understanding their needs. Information received by marketing department when they participate in various telematic events or when they analyze trends in telematics; The forum where our partners have a possibility to request an implementation of a needed functionality or speculate on the issues of interest;
  • #7: Briefly on the working process on the tasks within a project: Usually the process starts from a request about a new feature. There are a lot of factors involved in decision making: importance, actual demand, cost, complexity. In case of approval, a task is created and scheduled for a particular version. Versioning helps to group tasks within a project and attach their release to a particular date. Second stage is analysis. This is the process of identification the needs and building up functional requirements. On the basis of functional requirements, a design is made and interface prototypes are created. Afterwards, developers come into action and perform a task using the chosen architecture. Then a task goes to the testing when our quality assurance specialists test it in all possible and impossible ways J to make sure it works fine. And after that we make necessary changes to our user guides and documentation. And the final step — a task comes to the production servers and our customers are happy. Well, we continue and I give the floor to Katerina — system analyst of Wialon Hosting and Aleksei Shmigelski – lead developer of Labs team. Please greet.
  • #8: We’ll try to tell you about new features we have implemented or improved for previous 12 months. There are too many, of course, but at least we’ll mention most crucial of these features.
  • #9: I’ll start with CMS Manager as this is a very important tool in your work. There you manage users, accounts, payment, billing, available services, and so on. We tried to make this tool more convenient and informative for you. So, we implemented new reports on service hierarchy and account contents, we added new filters and columns, and enabled data sorting in tables. Now I’m going to tell briefly about each of those features.
  • #10: This is a report on service hierarchy. It shows all system objects existing in your service and connections between these objects (WHO created WHAT).
  • #11: A similar but different report is a report on account contents. It doesn’t show connections, but it shows numbers — what is created inside an account and how many of it, that is how many drivers, how many units, how many geofences, and so on.
  • #12: Each panel in CMS Manager has acquired new columns (e.g. last message — for units, last login time — for users, current balance — for accounts, etc.). It made the lists more informative. Besides, we added many new filters to all panels, which greatly improved search possibilities.
  • #13: Another cool feature, I call it "total sorting". I mean that now search results in all panels can be sorted by ANY column, e.g. you can sort units (up and down) by the time of their last messages, or sort users according to their current balance, or sort accounts by their billing plan, and so on.
  • #14: That’s about some new features in CMS Manager. And we’re not going to leave it at that. Future enhancements will include option to export tables into files (Excel files) and possibility to observe service general performance in form of graphs and statistics (a kind of Dashboard for CMS Manager). Many of these enhancements were based on your requests. They are aimed at facilitating your work with YOUR customers. CMS Manager is all about managing your service and organizing data. Unfortunately, sometimes data may be lost, deleted, or damaged (for different reasons, misuse of the system or some mistake). So, we thought about creating a Backup Service, which could restore units’ and resources’ data. It wasn’t a trivial task and Alexei will tell you all about it.
  • #15: Cool image?? on this slide alek -> shmi TY Katerina. Backup Service is a wonderful feature when your customer deleted some units or resources. I’ll tell you a little bit more about it.
  • #17: From developers POV Backup service is 2 month of hard work. Task is quite simple: we had to save all Hosting units and resources state every day. Service uses 2 different DBs for storing and caching, starts about hundred processes and downloads gigabytes information. Several interesting numbers: units DB size more than 65 GB and resoгrces more than 150 GB Moreover we save all custom units and geofences icons, for now it’s about 360 000 Backup service work every day approximately for 1 hour. All this date must be available online to our customers.
  • #18: At the end of last year we made a great job — merged POIs with geofences. It made a lot of good to both of them. Confusing
  • #19: And geofences have been enriched with new cool features: - now geofences can have an image on map - you can adjust color and size of its caption on map - html/iframe can be shown in geofence's tooltip (dynamically changing content like weather forecast or streaming video from a camera installed on a busy crossroad) - etc.
  • #20: I can show you some examples of what you can do with geofences now. First of all, geofences now can have an image on map. At that, you may or may not show geofence’s shape. You can choose to display image OR shape OR both of them.
  • #22: You can use HTML code or iFrame in geofence's description. It allows dynamically changing content to be displayed in the tooltip. This content may be: weather forecast or streaming video from a camera installed at a busy crossroads.
  • #23: What’s more, you can adjust color and size of geofence name on map. Like this.
  • #26: Besides, a new feature has been just implemented (maybe just a week ago) — creation of geofences from tracks. You build a track of a unit and then you can simply save it as a geofence. Really handy tool for lazy people))
  • #27: Wialon is compatible with many maps. User can choose any map layer he or she likes or is used to. Last year, following your demands, two map layers were added — OpenSeaMap (marine map with sea marks) and Mapbox. The total amount of different map layers supported in Wialon now is about 15, and some of them have various layers IN themselves (like oblique map, satellite map, traffic map, etc.). Here is the chart of most popular maps in Wialon… As you see, 40% of the users prefer our own maps that is Gurtam Maps, 22% use Google, the same goes for Yandex, and the rest you can see for yourselves.
  • #28: Not everyone knows about the possibilities opening with our Locator. The Locator is a URL link which displays a map and one or more units on it. The point is that you don't need to create new accounts, configure users, adjust access rights to give certain clients basic tracking services. Creating Locator links is easy and fast. Besides, a Locator link can be embedded to your site or any web page. This feature is mostly demanded in delivery services. For example, you may need to give access to a unit while it's delivering goods to a client. Actually, the locator can have many applications in real life. Alexei, we’ll you share some examples of usage with us?
  • #29: In the era of mobile technologies, we couldn't stay indifferent the demands of our time. Many Wialon customers just don't have time to sit at a computer and click with a mouse. They want to get all necessary information quick and easy.
  • #30: Wialon Mobile Client has been developed exactly for such people. It provides basic tracking functions (unit's whereabouts, their movements, brief history, sensors, notifications).
  • #31: Wialon Mobile Client has been developed exactly for such people. It provides basic tracking functions (unit's whereabouts, their movements, brief history, sensors, notifications).
  • #37: We started working with video files. At the moment, there's only one tracker making videos and storing them in files (SmartWitness KP1), but we suspect there will be more in future. Anyway, videos received from this tracker can be seen/played back in Wialon main interface. That's about video stored in files on external servers. Recently, we also noticed some demand concerning streaming video, and this is maybe a ToDo for the future.
  • #38: Now, reports. This is a very important and most strong part of Wialon platform. Last year, the module of Reports was given new life in terms of analytical possibilities. What do I mean? Actually, there’s a lot to say on the subject but I will pinpoint most crucial features: the options of grouping and sorting, and of course new charts.
  • #39: Grouping of data: now data in reports can be grouped in separate blocks according to a chosen criterion. This criterion can be date, week, month, shift, etc. This is an example of grouping by weeks (week 9, week 10, week 11).
  • #40: And here is the same report on parkings grouped by days.
  • #41: And here’s “double-grouping” — by weeks AND days (days INSIDE weeks), cause you can easily combine 2 or more groupings together.
  • #42: You can even group data by duration of an event. Thus you can distinguish small trips from big trips, for example. In the picture, you see the same report with grouping based on parking duration: short parkings — under 1 hour, medium parkings — from 1 to 10 hours, long parkings — over 10 hours. It’s all customizable.
  • #43: Sorting of data is also very useful: you can apply custom sorting inside any grouping. For example, you can choose to show trips from the longest to the shortest or from minimum fuel consumption to maximum or whatever else. Data can be sorted by ANY column existing in the report. This is an example of sorting by duration in ascending order.
  • #44: ...and this — in descending order.
  • #45: The wholly new approach was developed for charts. This is a brand new plug-in which allows not only comfortable perception of complex information but is also very flexible in adjustment. For example, you can display event markers on these charts or highlight chart's background according to some event (parking, speeding, fuel filling, etc.). We’re going to release new charts this month.
  • #46: We’re going to release new charts this month. Grouping, sorting, and charts are not the only changes in the module of Reports. Many reports have acquired new columns — all initiated by our customers. There’re so many new columns — I think I’m not able to list them all))
  • #47: Beside additional columns in existing reports, several totally new reports have appeared: Reports on driver’s activity (based on tachographic data) Reports on orders (developed for Wialon Logistics) Report on driving behavior (so called Eco Driving) These reports are widely used in Wialon Apps, which is the realm of Alexei. Am I right?
  • #53: Yes, and you know, this list of languages depends on you. Yes, it does. Wialon Hosting is translated into 59 languages, and here in Gurtam we officially support only 3 of them. The rest of the translations comes from you. You can translate Wialon Hosting or any Wialon-related application (web or mobile) into any language you want. We have a special Translation System for that. To get access to it, contact our technical support.
  • #54: At the end of last year we made a great job — merged POIs with geofences. It made a lot of good to both of them. Confusing
  • #56: Рост количества переведенных фраз (год назад было 6тыщ, сегодня уже больше 22 тыщ)
  • #58: As you know, traditionally we officially supported two languages — English and Russian. Last year we took one more language under control — it’s Spanish. Now all new features of Wialon Hosting are released and documented in Spanish, too. We already have full Spanish documentation for Wialon Hosting and Wialon Local, and we are working now on Wialon Apps (most popular of them have been already localized). And surely, you all know that we have Spanish-speaking members of technical support, we have our official website in Spanish, and lately we have launched a couple of branches in our forum for Spanish-speaking people. Anyway, no matter what language you speak, if you want to propose any corrections for documentation or interface phrases, don’t hesitate to contact us through your sales manager or technical support team.
  • #59: Thank you for your attention!
