A spreadsheet is made up of rows and columns that form a grid. Each intersection of a row and column is a cell that can contain text, numbers, or formulas. Formulas in cells begin with an equals sign (=) and use arithmetic operators like + for addition and - for subtraction to calculate values based on the contents of other cells. The formula bar displays and allows editing of the formula in the active cell.
