SEO Basics: A Step by Step Basic Guide
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.
It is one of the most misunderstood and misinterpreted terms in
the world of marketing.
Definition:
According to Wikipedia, SEO is “the process of affecting the
visibility of a website or a web page in a search engine’s unpaid
results.”
SEO is the process of optimizing your online content for being
on top in search engine when someone searches by specific
keyword.
It is that magic for which you have to work on your article to
make Google very likely to include your post on the top of
results whenever someone searches for that keyword.
Why is it Important?
If you have any website, blog or online store then SEO can help
you in growing your business and meeting your objectives.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the necessary process to
maintain top position on search engines. Because people click
only first 10 links on the search engine result page (SERP).
When people search for your products and services, you want
to appear on the top of the search engine
Techniques of SEO
White hat SEO:
White hat SEO is a most common technique which is used by
marketers to gain higher rankings in the search engine result
pages. The White hat SEO is considered to be a very good
approach because it completely follows search engine rules and
policies and does not aim to breach the Google's algorithms.
The practices listed under the White Hat SEO techniques may
be slow in giving results but the results-driven are much more
lasting in their approach.
Black hat SEO:-
Black hat SEO includes the practices that aim at finding
weaknesses and loopholes in the Google’s algorithms in order
to rank higher in the search engine result pages. These
practices are against the Google guidelines and Google’s
algorithms.
Black Hat SEO tactics can get your website banned from Google
and other search engines. The traffic generated through these
practices does not last nor are the rankings able to maintain
their position on the search engine research pages.
Thus, the practices under the label Black hat SEO are
considered to be Bed Practice.
Gray hat SEO:
Apart from a Black Hat SEO and White Hat SEO, there exists
Gray Hat SEO as well that includes some part from both white
and black hat SEO. The grey Hat SEO mainly came into
existence because of the pressure from the clients to receive
results they have been paying for. The third party companies
have an extra inclination towards these mixed practices
forming the Gray Hat SEO.
Types of SEO
There are two broad categories of SEO: on-page SEO and off-
page SEO
On-page SEO is the process of optimizing web pages to rank
higher and earn more relevant traffic in search engines.
Off page SEO refers to techniques that can be used to improve
the position of a web site in the search engine results page.
On Page optimization:
As per MOZ: On-page SEO is the practice of optimizing
individual web pages in order to rank higher and earn more
relevant traffic in search engines. On-page refers to both the
content and HTML source code of a page that can be optimized,
as opposed to off-page SEO which refers to links and other
external signals.
Major points of on-page SEO:
There are many points which effects on page here are some of
them:
Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Keywords

 Places where we can place our keyword:

Title
 Title is about Web Page
 The length of title should not more than 75 characters.
 The Optimum length is 50 characters.
 Focus / Primary keyword should be the title
 Try to place focus keyword before separator
 Title should have self-explanatory
Meta tag Creation
It works for crawlers not for users.
Major types of Meta Tags:
 Description: Length should not more than 165 characters.
Optimum length is 125-135 characters including space.
 Keywords : Note more than 5 keyword focused article
Heading
 Heading of particular information on Web Page
 The length should be between 15 to 65 char.
 Heading tags covers in HTML.
 H1 to H6
Text
 Text means content on web page
 Text is not all content placed on web page.
 Use keywords in text / paragraph
 Minimum 900 words should be used in a web page
 The focus keyword density should between 1% - 3%
 Keyword should be placed in the web page URL.
Alt tags
 Use for Image/s
 Use keywords or product image name
 The image description <img src=“image.jpg” alt=“image
description”>

 Content Quality

 Inbound and Outbound Linking

As per Moz: Off page, SEO refers to techniques that can be
used to improve the position of a website in the search engine

link building but it is not only that.

Page Authority:
 How strong are this page's/site's links in terms of helping
them rank for queries in Search Engine.
 Page authority can be increased by the on page
optimization.
Domain Authority:
 It measures of the power of domain name
 Considerable Factors – Domain Age – Domain Popularity –
Domain Size
 Range: 0-100
Backlinks:
 Creating hyperlinks from one to another page.
 Why it is important? – Promotion and Branding – More
Website Traffic – Building Authority – Conversion
