Unit 27 Task 3
Performer Improvement Targets
Introduction
• This task builds on your Task 2 work.
• You need to test your four identified
weaknesses. The testing process should use
standardised or bespoke tests.
• From this testing your results will identify two
priority areas for improvement.
• Your eight week training plan will focus on
these two priority areas only.

Test Result 3: 13 Test Result 3 Rating: The subject has a low
level of anxiety.
Best Result: Test result 3 showed to be the best result.
Best Result
Rating:
After all three test, test 3 came out the best with a score of 13. This
showed that as he grew confident in himself he was able to lower his
anxiety before and during a game. The end result showed that the
subject now has a low level of anxiety.

In terms of confidence I really wanted to see the ego orientated score
go up. This did happen with end final result being 2.7. However, this
could definitely be improved as the rating does go up to a 5.

• This bespoke test develops change of direction and running speed for a
football player. Mark out a five-yard box with a centre cone in the
middle of the box. Place a speed ladder two yards outside the box that
will serve as the finishing point. The player begins on the centre cone
and runs out to touch all four corner cones, returning to the centre
cone each time. Next the player runs out to the speed ladder and
sprints through the ladder. Full recovery between efforts, 5 minute rest
minimum in between.
Test Result 1: 30.01 seconds Test Result 1 Rating: Poor
Test Result 2: 15.24 seconds Test Result 2 Rating: Average
Test Result 3: 8.69 seconds Test Result 3 Rating: Advanced
Best Result: 8.69 seconds was the best result on the final test. His definitely
progressed as it became easier for him to grasp. Also his competitive
streak to beat his previous time.

Test Detail
Method Here:
• Starting position: Easy running controlling the ball;
• Voice command of left, right, back or forward.
• To sprint in the direction of the command for a designated distance,
whilst controlling the ball, and then return to easy running;
• Drill can be repeated 3 times with sufficient breaks.
Test Result 1: 35.49 seconds Test Result 1 Rating: Inaccurate
Test Result 2: 30.35 seconds Test Result 2 Rating: Instant
Test Result 3: 28.31 seconds Test Result 3 Rating: Delayed
Best Result: 28.31 seconds
Best Result
Rating:
Although the quickest time was the third result the response was
delayed. Therefore the best rating would have been the time of 30.35
with an instant response. This showing that his speed improved but his
reaction time/accuracy did not.
Improvement Target 1 – Justification
(M3)
• Why is this target needed?
• What will be the performance benefit to the
performer (e.g. team selection, injury
prevention and representative honours)?
• What will be the performance benefit to the
performers team(s) (e.g. unit, attack, defence
and whole team benefits)?
Student Justification 1
• Reaction time is definitely needed for Harry to improve as a striker. It is
inevitable that he is able to respond to other players on the pitch quickly when
the ball is being played in the oppositions goal area. He also has to have a
quick reaction when the ball is in the air or even in play to be able to hit it on
target.
• If Harry works hard on this target, this should definitely help him for the
upcoming trials for his second year at college. This should hopefully show
Dave that he has improved and therefore make it easier for him to be selected
for the team. I definitely feel that by Harry representing his team as striker,
should give him confidence and hopefully some representative honours.
• This target should also have whole team benefits as the midfielders will not
get frustrated when the striker misses the ball because his reaction wasn’t
quick enough. Therefore this should definitely help with the attacking side of
their play on the pitch.
Improvement Target 1 (P6)
Priority
Excellence
Trait/Result
Reaction time/30.35 seconds
Specific Target To improve on his reaction time when in a game scenario. To be able to
react quickly to passes and change direction according to the ball and the
position of his players. This should give him time to focus on the placing of
the ball and the target.
Measurable Although it is quite tricky to measure, using a stopwatch and focusing on the
time it takes for him to complete seems to be the best way so far.
Agreed Upon I have spoken to Harry and he has also agreed that this is what he needs to
improve on to better himself in his football career. He was not happy with
his test results and seems determined to improve.
Realistic This is definitely a realistic improvement target for Harry, he almost saw it
coming and definitely has the ability to improve.
Time Based Baseline test (WB 12/01): 16/01
Review (WB 09/02):
Complete (WB 09/03):
Given that Harry is the striker of the second team he has a lot of time for
improvement for trials in the upcoming year. Therefore, highlighting his
weaknesses early gives him enough time to better himself.
Improvement Target 2 (P6)
Priority
Excellence
Trait/Result
Footwork/8.69 seconds
Specific
Target
Harrys specific target is to be able to control the ball efficiently without losing
control of it when running at high speeds. When I watched some of his clips
online he does tend to lose control(only sometimes) when he is under pressure.
This teamed up with reaction time should really help him improve as a striker.
Measurable This too is a tricky one to measure as speed isn’t always what you want more
than accuracy with the ball. However, I am hoping that my improving the time
he takes with the ball, his footwork should improve with it meaning he has
more control over the ball.
Agreed
Upon
Harry seemed a bit apprehensive with this target as his timings were actually
really advanced. However, he does this it is a great combination that his targets
go hand in hand.
Realistic I believe compared to his other test results this is a realistic target and will
definitely benefit him when he is under pressure and trying to control the ball.
He is definitely got the ability for the challenge and it is sport specific.
Time Based Baseline test (WB 12/01): 16/01
Review (WB 09/02):
Complete (WB 09/03):
Improvement Target 2 – Justification
(M3)
• Why is this target needed?
• What will be the performance benefit to the
performer (e.g. team selection, injury
prevention and representative honours)?
• What will be the performance benefit to the
performers team(s) (e.g. unit, attack, defence
and whole team benefits)?
Student Justification 2
• Footwork in football is unescapable and therefore this target is so
important, especially when dealing with a striker. This target is
needed to get players around the pitch and by having great control
over the ball it will stop the opposition from retrieving it from them.
This target teamed up with speed is a great combination especially
for a striker.
• Footwork could also benefit Harry in terms of injury prevention. By
having accurate footwork will stop him from tripping and causing an
ankle injury. Furthermore, this should also have an impact when the
opposition go in for a tackle. If he controls the ball effectively and
then either shoots or passes it on, he should hopefully avoid any
nasty tackles that could cause injury.
• This again will have whole team benefits because they will be able
to see that Harry has control of the ball and is able to get around the
oppositions defence with ease and make a shot on target. This will
hopefully build their confidence with more winning games.
