What is Math Fluency?
Math fluency is the ability to recall the answers to basic math facts automatically
and without hesitation. To have students to be able to be fluent in math the
teacher needs to:
● Give the students significant practice
● Provide variety
● Make math fun and engaging
● Let students practice with mental math
● Teach the students problem solving strategies
More information on math fluency is located here:

More Math Fluency Facts
Math fluency is different at every age and in every grade level. Each grade level
has different state standards in which students have to master to move on. For
example:
● Kindergarten - add and subtract within 5
● 1st Grade - add and subtract within 20
● 2nd Grade - add and subtract within 100
● 3rd Grade - multiply and divide within 100 and add / subtract within 1000
● 4th Grade - add and subtract multi digit whole numbers
● 5th Grade - multiply multi digit whole numbers
Dr. Nikki Newton speaks more about each grade levels expectations here:

Other Factors that contribute to Fact Fluency
Math Fact Fluency is not
just about the student
trying to learn and
memorize information, it
is also about external
factors. Some of these
external factors are shown
here:

BENEFITS AND / OR CHALLENGES OF USING PRESENTATION PLATFORMS
LIKE GOOGLE SLIDES:
Google slides has many benefits. It is extremly user friendly and simple to
navigate. My favorite part about it is that it automatically saves everything the
second you start editing your slides. You can never lose information and never
run out of room to store it. A draw back to google slides is that you have to have a
google account (email) and that you have to be familiar with computer
technology. If you dont have much experience with a computer, google slides
may seem complicated to use. Overall I believe that google slides is the best
option for a slideshow within the classroom setting.
