Project
Project is defined as an effort to create or modify a specific
product or service. Projects are temporary work efforts with a
clear beginning and end. Projects can be completely contained
within a specific unit or department, or include other
organizations and vendors. A work effort may be considered a
project if it meets the criteria established by the organization.
Management
Management means
directing and controlling
a group of people or an
organization to reach a
goal. Management often
means the deployment
and manipulation of
human resources,
financial resources,
technological resources,
and natural resources.
Project Management
Project management: It is the
practice of initiating, planning,
executing, controlling, and
closing the work of a team to
achieve specific goals and
meet specific success criteria
at the specified time.

STEPS FOR
PLANNING
A
RESEARCH
PROJECT
TIME ESTIMATION
Accurate time estimation is a skill
essential for good project management. It
is important to get time estimates right for
two main reasons:
1. Time estimates drive the setting of deadlines for delivery
and planning of projects, and hence will impact on other
people‘s assessment of your reliability and competence as
a project manager.
2. Time estimates often determine the pricing of contracts
and hence the profitability of the contract/project in
commercial terms.
Good Time Estimation Techniques
The value of any project cannot be measured
without defining success. It requires focus on
outcomes. Outcomes are the events,
occurrences, or changes in conditions, behavior,
or attitudes that indicate progress toward a
project's goals. Outcomes are specific,
measurable, and meaningful.
Understand the Project Outcome
Estimate Time
Estimated time to complete is a value that is
expressed in hours of work required to complete a task
or project. During the initial stages of project planning
one of the main objectives is to get a
realistic estimation of time to
complete. Estimating the time to complete is one
component of the project plan.
Plan for it Going Wrong
Finally, allow time for all the expected
and unexpected disruptions and delays
to work that will inevitably happen.
Sickness, strikes, materials not
available, poor quality work,
bureaucratic bungling, etc.
SCHEDULING IN PROJRCT MANAGEMENT
Scheduling in project
management is the listing of
activities, deliverables, and
milestones within a project. A
schedule also usually includes
the planned start and finish
date, duration, and resources
assigned to each activity.
Effective project scheduling is
a critical component of
successful time management.
Six Processes Of Scheduling In Project Management
Plan schedule management
Define project activities
Sequence activities
Estimate resources
Estimate durations
Develop the project schedule
Technical planning provides
the Program Manager (PM)
and Systems Engineer with a
framework to accomplish
the technical activities that
collectively increase product
maturity and knowledge and
reduce technical risks.
Technical Plan of Work

planning
Workflow
A workflow is a collection of fixed
tasks or sequences performed to
accomplish a business process
according to a set of predefined
rules.
Project Management Workflow
A project is generally a one off, time bound enterprise
that serves a very specific purpose and results in a very
specific outcome.
Project Management Workflow Methodologies
Agile workflow is an iterative method of delivering a project.
In Agile, multiple individual teams work on particular tasks
for a certain duration of time termed as 'Sprints'. “Agile
Workflow can be defined as the set of stages involved in
developing an application, from ideation to sprints
completion”
Agile Project Management Workflow
Waterfall project
management maps out a
project into distinct,
sequential phases, with each
new phase beginning only
when the previous one has
been completed. The
Waterfall system is the most
traditional method for
managing a project, with
team members working
linearly towards a set end
goal.
Waterfall Project Management Workflow
Advantages of Project Management Workflow
 Improves overall efficiency
 Allows for collaboration
 Makes reporting easier and more transparent
 Keeps people connected
