Work packages are the smallest units that make up the work breakdown structure of a project. They should be specific, measurable tasks that are used to estimate costs, monitor progress, and control the project. Each work package includes a budget, deadlines, identified risks, task priorities, and team member assignments. Breaking a project into work packages allows for parallel work, seamless integration, and accurate cost and time monitoring through completion. Earned value management further measures work package performance by comparing planned, earned, and actual values.
