The Short Story
 A short story is a piece of prose fiction, usually under
10,000 words, which can be read in one sitting.
Elements of a Short Story
 Match the terms found in a short story to the correct
definition.

content, genre, etc.?
 What is suggested by the description,
“...a very self-possessed young lady of fifteen...”?
After Reading...
Can you now identify the following?
1. Who are the characters in the story?
2. Where is the story set?
3. Give an example of exposition (background
information) that we are given.
4. Where is the conflict in the story?
5. Where is the climax of the story?
6. What is the sequence of the story?
7. What is the final resolution of the story?
